David Brown 2D tool carrier

David Brown evaluated the Allis Chalmers model G when they designed the DB 2D tool carrier.

They tried several twin cylinder engines but found them noisy and vibrated through to the operator. DB came up with their own unique engine - twin cylinder but with extra dummy cylinder powering downwards to smooth out the vibrations.

Ploughs, ridgers, cultivators & hoes were some of the implements that could be mounted under the frame. This one has mounted crop sprayer.

DB designed lift cylinders which ran on compressed air powered by a compressor mounted on the engine.

There was a limited market for these tool carriers in Britain, used on market gardens who grew vegetables. Just over 2000 were built.

I have never seen one in person, but would love to have one...

In reading I came to understand the "dummy" cylinder was the air compressor. Anybody confirm or deny?

Allis had the same restriction here, the market for the G was limited, and folks kept them a long time. Some folks here have repowered G's with small diesels. I saw a market farming operation a couple weeks ago that had at least 2 IH Farmall Cubs in use.

Had an opportunity to buy one of those last
fall. It had been imported from the UK
Didn't buy it due the fact there were no
implements at all with it and no chance to
find any locally. Ended up buying a TEF20
Ferguson instead.
