what should I charge

What would you charge for putting an alternator on a International 350 utility. It included alt, new wiring harness, and wire up the lights for it. Also convert a M to 12volt alt. It included make mount bracket, new wiring harness, and voltmeter.
It is for the club I belong to, so it will be free, but just want to have an idea of what it might cost if they paid for it.

My wife was traveling recently and the alternator went out on her Suburban. Good news was that there was a Chevy dealer a block away from her hotel in San Antonio. Bad news was they charged $600 to replace the alternator - and that was after a 10% discount after I raised heck with them over the phone.

If you're doing it for me, I'd say about forty bucks. If I'm doing it for you, of course, the price would be different.

That sounds steep for a suburban. My wife's Escape alternator went bad 150 miles from home while staying with friends. Independent shop they knew quoted $600 for the job. I saves some by having my rebuilder ship them an alternator and them installing it. On the Escape you have to remove the right front axle shaft to get the alternator out. I don't like working in a snowdrift that much.

I get my oil changed at the GM dealer. Once they wanted $165 to replace the delco battery, which included the labor. They said it failed the load test. I replaced the battery with a Rural King excide for $45. Another time they said my serpentine belt was cracked. They would replace it, labor included, for $120. No cracks, belt looked just fine. So dealers charge more than I want to pay.

I work for food, good home cooked food.

If you need to value it for tax purposes, I'd use the hours involved times your shop rate plus the cost of the parts, discount the hours by any "BSing" time wasted, LOL. Some how I doubt that making wiring harnesses properly in batches of one could be quick or inexpensive.

I put 12v alt and new battery in this H and swapped out the bulbs plus some new wiring and a voltage dropping resistor from a Dodge and a diode from radio shack(rip) for about $100. I reused the generator belt and made the belt tightener.
