Diesel Fuel in Oil

I've got an MF 175. The other day I noticed diesel fuel coming out the dip stick hole. I replaced the injector pump and changed the oil and filter. My question is, can I add the diesel fuel/oil from the crankcase back to the fuel tank and if so, in what proportion? The diesel fuel/oil is black but pretty thin.

Thanks

I'd make sure it was at about a 10 to 1 ratio or better. You might end up changing the fuel filter really quick compared to regular schedule. The Racor company had/has a machine to suck engine oil out of the pan along with fuel, filter it and mix it back in the tank. Wouldn't work really well with today's new high pressure common rail systems in my opinion though.

Your Massey has a Perkins engine. The primary fuel pump that forces fuel to the injection pump has a tendency to leak fuel into the crankcase when they start leaking. It won't heal itself, get a new lift pump and save yourself a lot of problems. 2 Oliver 1850's and a 750 MF, replaced all the lift pumps at least once, one twice. If you continue to run it, it will dilute the oil and you will lose lubrication, need I say more?? Chris

Why would you even consider putting it back in the tank? The dollars you may save sure won't go far if that contaminated fuel causes further grief with your injection system. Burn it in your oil furnace.

I'd just filter it through a rag or something to take the chunks out then use it a gallon at a time or so...
Ditto on checking the lift pump because that could also be bad...

The guy at the local diesel shop was telling me about someone who was running bio-diesel and had an engine failure. Seems his fuel pump was leaking into the crank. Bio has a higher nitrogen content. The combination of oil, bio-diesel, and heat caused the mixture to nearly plasticize. I say nearly because the other element needed to make plastic is chlorine. He said the crankcase and oil passages looked like they had been injected with caulk. Almost like a Mr. Wizard project.
