earthmaster hi clear with Ford A engine?

I found an Earthmaster hi clear tractor with a model A ford motor. It's supposedly a '40's. Did they make a hi-clear? What was the factory engine? Any sources of earthmaster info, besides the web?

The Earthmaster #CH (1949) on my NAPA calender shows that it has an N-62 Continental engine. This is the same engine as put into the little Allis G and the MH Pony. That engine has only 2 main bearings, one at each end of the crankshaft. Thus it is not a very robust engine. I suspect that due to the age of the Model A engine being prior to 1932, and the frequent failure of the Continental, that some PO installed an old Model A engine in your tractor. It was not well balanced, but it was far tougher than the Continental.

Me owned an Earthmaster few years ago.
Haven't seen one that the frame where it bolts to the transaxel hasn't been broke. Very weak spot on the tractor.

Yes, they made 4 different high clearance models. They were as follows. CH and the CXH series. These were the one row tractors. The 2 row units were, DH and The DXH. The H in the model means high crop and the X meant it was an extra high clearance model. All used the same N-62 series Continental 62 CID engine and drive lines. The only differences were that the 2 row "D" series were wider. Google the Earthmaster Tractor Shed and there is plenty of information there to view. Gene Davis

Do any of the engine parts say Ford on them? A Continental engine could be mistaken for a A engine due to the flat head and distributor in the middle of the head.

If you want to go crazy... Model "A" Ford engines are ok but you want to go with a model "B" engine. Bolt right in and look the same but have a very heavy crank shaft and better counter balance set up.

The Earthmasters have been repowered with a number of different engines, Onan's Hercules etc the original engine was the Centennial N62 and while the G allis used a version of that engine it is not close to the same as the Earthmaster or MH Pony
the Distributor does not come out of the top center of the head on the N62 and its true that they only have 2 main bearing and when one that has 1000's of hrs on them is torn down the bearing are well worn very few failed they just wore out, the engine is rated at 15+ HP very nice running. I really enjoy my Earthmaster handy little tractor.
