bought a used trailor that has just been rewired new lights/wiring but when i plug it into the truck the brakes lock up.unplug it and you can hear them release im thinking the guy got a couple wires crossed anyone know for sure.RICK

on some of the older pickups the brake wire was in a different location. So you will have change it to match what you have.

The brake wire is in the slot for battery power on your truck. If your truck is factory wired then the brake wire should be hooked to the terminal marked blue in the trailer plug. If your truck is not factory wired then research is needed to find out what's what.

john the truck is a 2015 f-250 factory wired i assume.the hitch was already on it when i got it.

sounds like the trk is wired hot center pole, and the trailer is wired center pole brake. Are you using a 7 way adapter from a 5 way. They make two different 7 ways for that. Center aux and center brake. I carry both.

If the person used a premade plug on the trailer, they are very often not color coded correctly, I had this issue when I rewired my trailer. You will have to check the pins on your truck against the pins on your trailer.

I have found the connectors wired wrong many times.

Pretty easy to get left right backwards too.

I would start by pulling the plug apart and checking that, look for wires not in their clamps good and crossing over. Also make sure your trailer brake wire is in the terminal marked blue. I would guess that they have the brake wire hooked to the power terminal. If the trailer wires are color coded correct,

1. Blue-brakes
2. Green- right turn
3. Yellow-left turn
4. Brown- clearance
5. White-ground

Then they will not hook to those colors on the plug. The green wire goes to the brown terminal, brown wire to the green terminal, and the yellow wire to the red terminal. The blue and white will be correct.

I found a lot of good info on this site when I put an electronic brake controller on my old Dodge a few years ago.

One way to remember the wiring colors, assuming they are correct is that the yellow wire is for the yellow line side and the green wire is for the green grass side.

same thing happened to me. Found my issue in the adapter. I was going 6pin trailer to 7 pin truck. The adapter center pin was switched. Took the adapter apart, switched wires, good to go.
