Old Familiar Sound

I've been running diesels for the last 15 or 20 years. Took the restored 450 gas out the road today and going down a long hill I hear that steady pop, pop in rhythm. Used to hear that sound daily. Now it's a memory.

As a kid I helped the old Farmall "pop" while on the road by pushing in the ignition switch momentarily, gotta blow the crud out of the muffler you know.

Yeah I did that sort of thing too on dad's '56 Chevy sta. wgn. when I was a teen. Get going at least 40 mph, turn the key off, wait a few seconds and turn it back on......BOOM. One time too many and blew the muffler off. Dad asked about the muffler needing replacement...........I had absolutely no idea....................... Course living in the city, a "trip" was all of a couple of miles and engines would get carboned up (good ole leaded gas) and you had to periodically clean them up. Dad just putted along so somebody had to do it.........
