Radio head set

What radio head muffs, the hearing protection type, pulls in stations best? Where I live FM stations don't come in the best except for one local station that plays music that is less talented and more ambitious than I want to listen to. I had a Dewalt head set that didn't pull stations in well at all but I can't find it this spring. Good riddance. Jim

I have had several work tunes head sets. They always had a lot of static. I could get FM stations ok. The FM stations only played music that made my head hurt. I couldn't hear AM stations without a lot of static. I liked to listen to Rush Limbaughs station. The last set I ran through my mower. I now use a small radio I keep in my shirt pocket. and got a pair of ear buds. Then I use my sound protector muffs over them. I am happy now. I can hear Rushes radio station, and other am stations very plain. Stan

I've had two sets of Worktunes, the FM comes in better on the new set but still not great.

I just plug my iPod in now. That works slick.

That is a good combonation. A lot of those radio headphones do not even come close to the electronics in even a cheep car radio! In a little side track,,, The BOSE headphones block out noise sound with staggering quality. Now if you can handle about $300.oo per copy. I have the Kosse knock off ones. They do work just fine but have just a tinny bit of amplifier hiss in the sound. Like that ear bud idea though. Guys protect your hearing with all of your might. You do not understand till it is gone! It is a very slow lose and is unfixable. I have been very careful and still can hear through out the audio range. One tractor we had on the farm was a 460 with that neat sounding 6 cyl. After a day out in the field my head would be swimming and buzzing. At 17 years old I started wearing shooter muffs. Thank goodness!

Had a young fella working for me, wore earbuds. Refused to work without them. Doesn't work for me anymore. Same thing with cell phones, Leave your phone in the truck or go home. Yes, I understand tedious hrs. in a tractor is different, but not much. Safety first !!!

I listen to internet radio from my phone into the audio port on the headphones, or I use a mp3 player to do podcast/audiobooks same way,

When operating any equipment - I never wear them. Yes approved hearing protection. You need to be aware of what is going on with the
tractor/machine.
My last worker threw a rod through the block and never heard it, listening to music.

What did you say. That is my favorite sentence now. Too many motorcycles, and other loud noises in my 72 years. I tell my wife I hear what I need to hear. Stan

Where I work we are allowed to wear approved headsets on the line. The only ones we are allowed are made by Stanley or another supplier that I
can't recall.I am on my second set in 3 years and they take a lot of abuse and stand up to the wet conditions well. The battery cover is the
weak point.I wipe mine down with a damp paper towel between departments to prevent cross contamination yet they still work. They pick up FM
great outside or in a normal indoor environment but not so well when surrounded by concrete walls and ceiling, lots of stainless steel
equipment and catwalks above and heavy electrical interferance.I still wear my original one at home and can tune into anything I want to
hear.I replaced it because it was too filthy from 2 years hanging live chickens to ever be clean enough to wear on the frozen meat packaging
line where I transfered to.

I'm using the Peltor (Work Tunes) with the digital
receiver. I'm in a huge hangar building surrounded
by lots of metal. The FM works ok, never tried the
dinosaur AM side. What I mostly do with mine is
plug into a small Bluetooth receiver paired to my
iPhone then either listen to my mp3 music or stream
Pandora off the internet. I place my iPhone high on
a parts shelf towards the center of the building
plugged in to keep charged and it will cover the
entire hanger. The Bluetooth receiver gets
recharged over night every 2nd or 3rd day. With the
addition of a microphone you could even make and
receive calls.

I have two of the 3M Tekk Worktunes earmuffs. One is an earlier model with a digital display, while the other has no display, just a voice to tell you what frequency you're on.

The radio reception on the older model is barely adequate, while the newer one doesn't seem to be as good. Between the relatively low noise reduction (22db) and the limited volume, I can't hear the radio very well over sound of my zero turn mower. This is on FM; I assume they are useless on AM, particularly around any gasoline-powered engines.

If anyone makes a better product than the 3M earmuffs, I'd like to know.

Thank you for the suggestions. My neighbor uses buds under ear muffs and it works very well for him but i'm not wild about carrying all the equipment and wires. Just a matter of personal preference. I plan to do some shopping today on the way to a graduation but if i can't find anything the internet will be my friend. As soon as i can i have to mow the hay, er, the lawn and it would be nice to be able to quiet the howl of the mower.
