Yard full of "junk"

I see a fellow post farm stuff on C-L a lot.He has many auction finds. We went to stone quarry today and swung by his place. WoW! A few dozen big trucks, buses etc. A few dozen tractors. Implements of all shapes and sizes. In the middle of this mess is a very large, very modern, very nice house. My current phone does not do pics but I am going back.

He has a DC Case that needs wheels but he says it runs extra well for $500. Nice metal on it.
There is an 1800 Oliver LP that looks all there. A ford Jubilee. Oliver dozer of some sort with no engine. Fordson on steel, free engine. At least one fire truck. His prices on C-L are very reasonable too.

Thing is, he is in the same county as me. I got in all kinds of legal trouble for having way less "investment" sitting around my place. Who you know?

Could be he's 'grandfathered' as to zoning laws and if he has a farm that makes a big difference as to what he can have around. In my state the counties have almost no authority over farms and equipment.

Sounds like my chum who has a contractor zoning residence , he has trucks like KB8 in the bush --his scrap is
worth more than the property

All it takes is one person turning you into the department of environmental management
and see how fast you have to clean your place up. I seen many people have to clean up
their rusty farm equipment.

Even heard of a guy having junk cars in his yard. While he spent the winter in Florida,
IDEM put a 3 day notice on his front door. When he returned form Florida in the spring,
his cars were gone, IDEM hauled them away and put the bill on his property taxes. Not a
happy camper .

I am glad I don't live in Indiana. We have too much gov't intervention here and from what you post your is worse. gobble

I'm glad I don't have a junk yard next to my place. You have to admit it's an enviromental issue allowing old things to leak antifreeze, oil and gas on the ground.

I see you are in nw Ohio. I paid him a visit a couple months ago looking for a flat bed for a truck I have sitting here. Amazing the stuff he has there. Probably take the better part of a day to see it all. Like you say, he prices stuff reasonably and seems like a decent guy as well. I just can't really bring home any more projects right now.

TF Makes you glad we live in Ky and Tn. No body running around telling us what we can have in the yard or behind the house. When I see these post about DEPARTMENT of ENVIROMENTAL affairs I really draw up. Maybe that will never happen here. We still get gravel out of the creek here, just have to be sure no one is looking..

George you just live too far west in Indiana . Here in Grenekutcky {Greens county) 35 miles east of you that kind of thing is unheard of.

Its heard of in California, even in rural mountain country. Thankfully the Association of California Car Clubs lobbys hard for things like smog exemptions, vintage untitled vehicle storage, and special plates.
The code compliance officer and I have an understanding,. He leaves me alone after I made him spend about a month trying to nail me, making him jump through legal hoops, and making him proving that everything I do is legal. My lots on the highway are zoned for commercial and residential. I This morning II sold a 52 Chevy truck i bought Tuesday, just by puttting a sign on it..

Bill, A Friend's dad is the one who got in trouble, big time.
A semi load of old tires. 50 cars, trucks, tractors with trees growing in them. He was a professional hoarder. Not to mention an illegal landfill. You can fill your barn full of anything, just keep it under roof and out of site.

The same time he got in trouble, I saw foot prints in the snow going down to the gravel pit. They stopped at the old metal mobile home frame. That made me think, the officials are using google maps or something to see things most people have no idea that are there. I didn't get in trouble, but the neighbor across the lake did. He had to clean up everything with a motor that didn't run, mowers, tractors, cars, trucks. They didn't give him a lot of time either.
