Another reason to love old iron -- they were assembled by people, not with robots like this Ford truck assembly line in Missouri !!

People priced themselves right out of the jobs. Every company that can use robots or machines to replace humans is doing it. Ford, GM, FIAT/FIAT Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan and even JD, Cat and CaseIH to name just a few.

Yes it is true. Have a friend who made over $80K before he retired. Full benefits on top of that. Sat in a booth and watched cars go by. May have had to push a button a couple times an hour. Too much money....BUT...

I am pretty sure if they gave up their benefits and took $1.25 per hour the robots still would have won the race.

"Another NAFTA" by whatever name & even all the robots will be across the oceans.

There are places where the robot welders are better, but in specialized items, I would trust the human. I don't want to be behind a semi trailer that was welded
with robots with (technically legal welding). Cars, trucks and appliances may be ok, but anything major, I will pay for a well paid welder that can do the job
the way it should

You would have to go back to the early 1970's to find a non-luxury car or a pickup truck that was not welded, assembled and painted by robots. Worker safety, consistent quality and cost were the reasons for changing to automation back forty years ago.

The product that comes off that robot line will be much better than what would come off a line populated by people. Welding is particularly well done by machines.

Ya But.....Behind every robot is a few humans (CEO's) making 4+ million. What they give us on good welding they cheat us on parts. Every year people say keep your old one because the news ones aren't as good.

The scary part is: Good God! What would dang things cost if they were put together by people. They are outrageously expensive now!

I guess you could also say the same thing about tractors, combines and any other machinery, tools or automated equipment.

Not sure. I bought a 2015 Malibu a few months ago for $1,700 less than I paid for 2004 new out the door. Neither were financed, so it was an apples to apples comparison.
