Fuel injector cleaner

Anyone have experience with the fuel injector cleaner you put in your gas tank? I've got a car that has had gas go bad in it and I drained the tank and replaced it with fresh gas. Still the car was running bad so I took it to a mechanic and he did some kind of cleaning to the injectors but the car is still running bad. He recommended adding injector cleaner to the gas and I did. I just wondered what to expect from it. I don't know if one tank will do it or whether it will take a dozen tanks. I thought about putting new injectors in the car but I'm afraid there is still enough varnish in the system to plug the new injectors.

Berryman's B12 ChemTool is good too. I love the stuff. Comes in spray cans and pour-in cans. I've had really good luck with it. If used straight, like when spray cleaning a carb, it can cause the rubber parts to swell though.

BG 44k will do it, if it can be done... But you may need to change filters as it will clean everything it touches... gas tank, lines and all.

What I had put in there for the first tank was Gumout. So far I've driven half the tank of gas and it hasn't made a great deal of difference. The car still dies from time to time when stopped at traffic lights. It sounds like the BG 44K is the one to try next.

I think if you are actually trying to fix a problem with a can of anything in the tank I would probably get the 44K, most of the other additives you can buy lean more toward preventative maintenance/cleaning through periodic use.

You might start needing to consider that your problem might be somewhere else other than the fuel system, especially considering the complaints and actions/repairs you've made so far.

I think unless the mechanic was a quack the problem is with the fuel injectors. He put the car on a computer and checked the car's computer and sensors. He did replace an oxygen sensor and clean the maf sensor. The only thing else he said he could do would be to change out the fuel injectors. This is something I could do on that car but before I go that route I think I need to get the fuel system cleaner than it is now. I will change the inline fuel filter before the next tank of gas.

f the injectors are the problem then the only fix is to remove them and have them professionally cleaned or replaced. Before I did that I would check the fuel pressure though. That is more likely to be the issue.

At this point I'm guessing there is bits of varnish floating it the gas and I'm afraid it would be a waste of time and money to clean or replace the injectors. As far as the fuel pressure the mechanic checked that. The car was given back to me under the plan of trying fuel injector cleaner in the gas before trying something more radical. I have just never used such a product and don't know how quickly you should see results.

One thing I heard once was just drive normally. I used to think it would be good to put it in the tank before a long trip and that would really flush it out all at once but apparently it doesn't work that way. When you stop the engine it soaks into the deposits on the injectors and then when you start it again the soaked stuff gets washed off.
