I have been tinkering around with a few things since I brought it home a couple weeks ago. Haven't had LOTS of time to work on it, but have found a few hours to delve into it! The first thing I did was to give it a tune-up. Since the plugs and wires were old and corroded, they were the first to go. I installed new points/ condenser, etc.....
Note to self - if someone asks if they can "help", make SURE they can count to 3, and not remove the wrong TWO screws.....
After getting all that figured out, I tried to start the tractor - the timing was off, so I found TDC, and went from there.
Today, 9 May 2015, the neighbor's 16 year old son came over, and we fiddled some more. After about 30 minutes, I hit the starter, and she fired right up! It didn't run long - the gas tank was removed, and prepping to be lined, but she DID run!
We spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning parts and removing "mud" from the rest of the tractor.
A couple days ago, we did remove one of the rear tires (only one that didn't hold air), and took it to the gas station in town to be taken off the rim. Turns out, the rim had Calcium in it, the tube leaked, and the rim rusted to death because of it. HOPEFULLY I can get ahold of a decent rim soon, so I can actually DRIVE the tractor!
