Identify Diesel and Kerosene

About 6 weeks ago I bought 3 Five Gallon plastic containers of Kerosene for the shop Bullet heater, The weather has turned warm, didn't use the Kerosene. About 2 weeks I bought 4 five gallon containers of Diesel for my Lawn mower. PROBLEM is I have forgot which is which. Our state has the red dye in both of them. Is there a simple way to identify them? Thank you

Get a bit of each from wherever you originally got it - compare the smell of the known kerosene and diesel to the what's in the jugs that you aren't sure about' 8)

Another way is to put a drop from the mower tank on a clean piece of paper, then do the same with the other two. Between smell, and rate of spread/looks, you should know. Jim

Take the cap off the heater and smell. Then smell the jugs. Unless you're smelling impaired there's no way to mistake one for the other.

Kerosene should be as clear as water. Even #1 diesel is not clear, will have a tint to it.

Buddy of mine up North did the same thing. He just mixed the 2 together, added some Howes to the tank, and ran it out in his little Kubota. Following winter he got a Sharpie and marked them.

e said they are both tinted red in his state.

K1 kero= clear.Other kero not so clear.

But he notes his state requires red dye in both off road diesel and Kerosene. RN

gold leaf--- kerosene is simply a higher refined fuel than diesel fuel it is similar to #1 diesel. I would put some Lowes diesel additive in it and run it thru the lawn mower. should not be a problem.
