In the last pic, why are they throwing bundles over the belt? As I recall from when I was a kid, you pulled up alongside the separator opposite the belt. Closer to the feeder and a hell of a lot safer.

Yep, I was there. Great mid-day Parade of Power, lots of steam, kerosene, gas and diesel. Powerhouse was running, sawing lumber as I think. Great flea market, bought IH ammeter gage $5, singletree $5, like-new mirrors for truck, $10. Rock-crusher demo, dyno demo, plowing demo over and over. Some others. I recommend it, but you have to either camp there, or stay nearby, maybe in a Sand Springs motel.

In that picture, the wind wsa blowing pretty good right-to-left. Chaff was pililng up on the left. Might have been the reason.

In our country in the middle of NE where threshing wheat was a full summer time job, Rakes were pulled in on both sides at the same time and two men in each rake unloading in a 36 " machine with a good tractor belching smoke. OSHA hadn't been invented yet and men had sense enough to not get hurt. If OSHA had been in force then hate to think what those men would have used because pitchforks would have had shields on em

We always had a bundle wagon on each side pitching into the feeder. I never heard about anyone getting into the belt. We were more concerned that the flat belt would slap together and cause the bundle team(s) to run away. Dad would never allow a 2-cylinder tractor to be used to power the thresher as it would slap the belt every once in awhile. Runaway horses were far more likely to hurt someone than the flat belt.

I remember pitching from both sides. Only belt injury I know of was to a horse's tail! That created a brief bit of excitement.

Went to that show in mid 80s while stationed at Tinker AFB.Bill Monroe was the entertainment.Biggest Allis I ever saw (generator) Grandpa put an F-30 on the belt,One bundle wagon on the right behind the H,one wagon on the left behind King & Queen. He said if you put the team on the right they'd try to eat the thrashed oats out of the barge wagon.Almost 60 years ago.Sheesh
