OT - Small Engine Spark Plug Wire

Went to start the year old rider last weekend and no go...

Took another look today as the yard is almost a foot high now. Kohler Courage 22 HP Single cylinder engine. Mice chewed/severed the spark plug wire. Looking at a parts site it appears that a separate wire is not available as it is an integral part of the ignition module. That's OK and I will order that part if that is what it takes, just wondering if it is possible to cobble up a short term splice and have it work for a few hours so I can get the yard mowed. Would seem simple enough to splice some copper for the wire itself, but what would it take for insulation? Maybe there is more to it, but seems like I should be able to make this go. Thinking a little more I have some spark plug wire left over from a 9N project, Can I splice it in and just wrap it with electrical tape.

TIA,

Kirk

Yes it will work. You need to insulate the splice with good tight wraps of electrical tape. High voltage splices never leak right off unless they get contaminated by dirt . Eventually the energy will leak after some time tracking will occur but you should be in service way longer than it takes to order a coil with wire.

Just grab another spark plug wire and splice the two together. Butt connector will work, solder better.

Ive spliced it with another real wire core wire before and soldered the connection. Then i smeared silicone on the splice and slid a piece of rubber fuel line over the silicone.
worked for me.

Probably STILL working for you :)

If the wire on the coil is resistor wire, cut a short piece of steel wire, or a straight pin, paper clip. Sharpen both ends, stick it half way in the end of the old wire, push the new wire onto the other half, heat shrink the joint. Should be good as new.

They used to sell bakelite splicers with basically a sheet metal screw in each half onto which you screwed the wire. I haven't seen those for years, but there's newer designs on the market.
NGK for example

You could cut it,splice it and use heat shrink on it. Could use fuel line hose over layed as to stop any arcs.Just a quick get by until you get the parts.
