This is the JD 2040 i have ask a couple question about last week. Its been sitting for the last 2 years under a shed. The tractor actually sat parked under the shed most of its life. It has 525 hours on the meter. I went to pick it up today expecting some sort of trouble starting. Both front tires flat and rotted both rears low on air actually got one front to hold some air. So I hooked up my cables and let it charge a bit while i was hooking up the box blade that come with it that was just sitting right behind the tractor, poured some good fuel in while waiting. The guy ask me how you going to get it out from under the shed, I told him well i hope its gonna crank. He give me the key and soon as the starter turned the tractor fired right up like it had been running an hour before. The guys Jaw dropped and he cuss a little and said if i had known it was gonna be that easy i would have charged you more money for it. LOL I bought the 2040 tractor a 6 foot box blade that hadnt been used much and a 6 foot bush hog brand brush hog in great shape and a sub soiler all for the bargin price of $2600 dollars . Just a Awesome day.

Tom personally i love my Massey Ferguson 135 But i just couldnt pass up that kind of deal whatever color it was. But i can always sell it if it gives me troubles. Im not a big JD fan either but i am today LOL.

It looks great, looks like a very great deal, ido think in time you will be using the 2040 the most and letting the 135 sit still, great buy ,enjoy it

YOU blanket blank blank YOU stole the damn thing! How big of a s----- eatin grin did you have on your face as you drove away. Can you actually sleep tonight??????? What a deal ! I have done pretty good a few times but you topped most all of us!

Nice tractor. I have the 1977 2040 that my dad bought new. It is a very handy tractor that uses very little fuel ours has 6000+ hours on it and has never been worked on except for a clutch and hyd pump seal. Tom

Was it a good deal. YES Any of us here would of done the same !

To those that think he stole it shame on you ! He paid the man what he asked for it. He had no idea it would start neither did the man that sold it.

After you run it awhile to check things out I'd do a full service on it. Be sure to change the antifreeze and add some brand of liner pitting protector additive. Also when changing the hydraulic fluid and filter MAKE SURE you pull the sump screen and clean it too. Don't cheap out on the hyd. fluid either as cheap fluid can ruin the brakes. I only use JD hy-gard in them.

Those back tires should give years of service yet. Don't let a little cracking scare you.

Well i ask him what he wanted for it. he told me it should be worth atleast 2000 to 2500. He said it aint run in 2 years and used just 1 time a year before that to scrape a driveway. So i got on here and ask yall folks and yall told me it was a good deal .So i called him back and told himi would give 2500 for everything he come back with 2800 and i come back at 2600 and he said come pick it up.He didnt have to take my offer but he did and now its mine. So yes i was grinnin from ear to ear. Actually still grinnin.

If that hour meter is working im gonna say it is correct only because i know the folks. They bought the tractor new. Im sure when its cleaned up it might show it a little more

Heavy rear hubs is a nice touch. The rear tires can be run with just air without concerns over leaving ballast.
Flush well then change the coolant asap with HD diesel concentrate and distilled water.

There is an upgrade on the broken nose extension piece. The 50 series nose with the lightbar is a bolt on replacement.

Power adjust rear wheels are utilized to easily adjust rear wheel tread without the aid of a JACK for rowcropping

Tom how do you put the park break on . I see it has a P on the cover im guessing you use the shifter somehow.

You must have the RH gearshift lever in any of the 4 speeds then put LH lever in P.

Later model 2040's,some other models built for N American sales and tractors built for European sales had a handbrake.

Thanks Tex , i actually by mistake figured that out this morning. I thought ok it went it park for
some reason this time. Then i noticed the right hand gear lever was in gear. I took the right hand
out and tried to put in park again and it wouldnt go in, so i put the right back in and it went into
park. Kinda sounds like the Hokey Pokey LOL.

READ IN A LOWER POST THAT YOUR NOT A FAN AND MAY SELL. I WILL START THE BIDDING AT $3500. THAT IS AN EASY PROFIT. LOL GOOD FIND.

Before something gets broken or over looked . The nice folks at 1-800-522-7448 have real JD operators and service manuals on a CD and hard copy. The parts manual is free at the Deere web site.
The IT manuals are best rolled up and used to swat flies.

LOL, Just only because that Green stuff is expensive. Im beginning to like it alot more cause everytime im look at it,it makes me smile. Now i dont know if its because i have a new tractor or because the expression on the guys face when i turn the key and it fired right up after been sitting for 2 years and sold it so cheap. Just thinking bout it sitting outside makes me grinn. LMAO

Thank you BuickandDeere ,I just ordered the JD operators and service manual from the number you posted . Said i would have it in
about a week to 10 days. Thanks again

Good deal. I'm no green fan but I like that tractor. Cheapest I saw on Tractorhouse was over $5,000 and that was just the tractor.
