Double trouble

I was pulling my trailer to a mowing job. I had to go through a narrow gate. Once I started in it was down hill on a gravel road preventing me from backing up. I have made this entrance many times in past years. I could see the trailer fender was going to slide past the gate iron post, no problem. What I didn't see was the hinge bolts sticking out beyond the post. When I got to the bottom I could hear air. I guess I now have a flat. What I saw was not what I expected. Both tires were flat, besides that both rims had the rim bent from the bolt on the post. Three hours later I was back in business. So what did I learn from that experience. Have a jack, lug wrench, and spare tire in my truck at all times. If I had all that I could have installed my spare, removed the least bent rim hammered out the bent part and had it aired up at a tire about a mile away. So how did your day go? Stan

About the same. Working on the owners zero turn mower replacing the two belts. She went and got them yesterday. Took the old ones off and went to put the drive belt on. Of course the parts house gave her two deck drive belts instead of the engine drive belt. Went to water the cows and discovered we had a new calf. Of course the mother is one of those nasty ones that won't let you near the calf. Started raining so I called it a day.

You forgot the part where the alternator went out on the 4440 while spraying burn down. While changing that I discovered a pinhole in the fuel return line which had dribbled just enough fuel on the radiator and condenser to cause a mucked up mess. Got all that fixed with only one bloody hand. I'm over the day. The tank is full and the tractor is ready to roll for the morning, though.

yeah, about 3 weeks ago one of the tractor rear tubes sprung a leak. Calcium leaking all over. $200 repair. Last week I walk in the barn and another tractor rear has sprung a leak. What are the odds?

The drawbar pin came out on the D4, I looked back just in time to see the hydraulic hoses stretched to the max on the 4 bottom trail plow and pop the nipples for the couplers off, hydraulic oil everywhere. Spent a day trying to get broken pipes out of tractor. Ace extractors (made in Taiwan) did not work. Had to use hacksaw and chisel.

My double trouble was more space age than conventional, but everything worked out OK. Last eve at about 7:00 I pulled into the last field to plant corn. 85 acres and talking rain so I wanted to get it done. Dropped the planter, put the tractor in gear, took off and the planter units wouldn't run. I updated the planter this spring so it's all electric drives controlled by two computers that talk back and forth using GPS as a command. It's been working great till now. Checked for GPS signal, yes there was signal, flipped the manual switch, yes the units ran on manual. Checked the height sensor switch, it worked so I called the dealer. He just happened to be close by so in five minutes he drove in. He said he had just encountered this problem today for the first time with someone else and it was a software glitch with the other customer. He got on my computer screen, touched a couple icons and everything worked again. I could have hugged him. I got in the tractor and took off and #1 row sensor yelled at me so I stopped. What the heck is going on here? Everything worked fine till I moved to this new field. Got on my hands and knees and looked at the seed tube and it was plugged with a dirt clod that had jammed up there when I set the planter down. Got that rectified and all was well. Finished up at 2:00 this morning with my son driving the planter. The old man here sat in the pickup sleeping. LOL

It could be worse, the day before yesterday my neighbor was driving his older four wheel drive tractor down the road and an oil hose broke underneath the tractor and dumped all the hyd/trans oil without him knowing it. He was told it would cost $20,000 to fix it. I'm glad I'm not wearing his shoes!

I usually have everything I need, and a lot more in my pickup, but this year I just didn't load up my stuff, for what ever reason. Stan

Stan your story reminds me of something that happened to me beck when i was dating Marilyn 40+ years ago. Was driving home from a date in the wee hours of the morning when i had a flat four miles from home. I had a spare and jack but no wrench. I got my exersise that night!

How about ordering on febr 27 a remote receiver and control that are not to be had this side of the pond so i can try to trap my 7 impossible to catch bison and finally get the parts delivered after 2 months in transport only to find out they send 2 remotes and no receiver. :x

How would that make your day eh?
