Farmall 340 Diesel-Starter Part Number

Hi,
I have a Farmall 340 Diesel that a guy is going to lend me for my son to do some Antique Tractor Pulling. The problem is that the tractor doesn't have a starter. I have done alittle research and found that the Farmall 340 is different than an International 340 therefore I will need a part number from an intact tractor to get the proper replacement that doesn't come into contact with the stearing shaft. Can someone help me??

The online parts listing shows part number 375378R91 as the IH number for the starter. Unfortunately the pages for the starter break down are not included online so I didn't come up with a cross to the original Delco Remy number. When doing Google search on number 375378R91 I came up with a hit with All States Ag Parts. They show that number crossing to 1108673. I am a bit leery of that number since the CNH online listing shows that number crossing from IH number 374657R91 which is the starter for an I-340D instead of the F-340D. Also All States Ag Parts lists the IH number for use on the International 340D, no mention of the Farmall 340D.

Wilson Auto Electric doesn't list a F-340D, only the I-340D in my old parts book. Their online catalog does not list any starters for either of the diesel engine tractors.

Thanks Owen. Your post has some good points about the international vs farmall part number dilemma that I have. A fella before me ordered the starter for the international, tried to put it on and found that the starter was too long which interfered with the stearing linkage.
My hopes is that someone has the same model who could physically get the part number from their starter. I know I can make a starter work but am not crazy about bastardizing the steering if I can get the correct starter.

The starter listed here is a replacement that is supposed to a lot of different models. The Delco numbers listed include the starter for the gasoline model but not the numbers I found for the diesel units. It lists the 340D but doesn't specify the International and/or Farmall models. I think I would want to be sure that it was going to work on the F-340D before I ordered one.
