I have the chance to rent 110 acres of dryland ground. North central Nebraska. We average some where around 15 inches of moisture. 2012 we had 5 inches total, 2014 we had about 24. The ground is just better then blow sand, but has been farmed for ever. Last few years it has been in hay Millet. What do you guys think about maybe oats for hay this year? I will have COOP Roundup, then hire the Oats drilled.
Cost me $20/acre to rent it. Somewhere around 15 to spray it, another 15 to drill it, plus how ever much for seed.
Years ago, I planted Oats, but that was in relatively good farm ground, and I raised over 3 tons per acre. Not sure it will do that up here. I need advice.
