A lady i know has a John Deere 2040. Her Husband bought it new but i dont what year. It hasnt been used hard just small garden stuff scraping driveway little bush hogging. Its a diesel tractor. Its been sitting for a while maybe used once a year to scrape the driveway . It only has 525 orginal hours. The lady would sell it to me for 2000.00. It needs all 4 tires and made mention that whenever the family member used it he has to put hydraulic oil in it. i see no signs of anything leaking from underneath where it sits under a shed. My question is. Is this tractor even worth 2000.00. The son said it was 37 HP tractor. Other than the tires and cleaned up the tractor looks to be in good shape. Sheet metal all sraight just a little bugger on the nose cone. Also has hydraulic hook ups on the back.

You should of got it right away ! Sure sounds like a deal ? The tire can't be worn down if those are true hours. Why do they need replaced ?

Im guessing because because driving on paved road around that trailer park they own thats the only thing i can figure. I mean they are not slick by no means more dry rotted than anything but all of them are flat.Personally ive never seen the tractor even move and i go past it twice a day. But if yall say thats a good deal i will see about getting it. Thank yall for the advise.

There are two different JD 2040 model of tractors. Either in that condition are worth far more and are far more capable than the Ford N series that sells in the $2000 range.

Put fresh coolant in the engine. A direct ground wire from the battery (-) to a starter mounting bolt. The sheet metal connection in those have problems after a few years. Install a destroker in the front pump if it's a later closed center tractor. Install and use a block heater instead hitting it with ether. New filter and oil in the transmission.

Thank you for that info. Its funny you mentioned the wireing problem. Because the son did
say there was some kind of trouble with a wire and couldnt remember if it was a switch or
what but believed the father got it fixed. Im really not sure if this tractor had power
steering or not only because i dont recall seeing any sreering cylinders up front. Just
looking at the tractor it looks like all it needs is the years of dust washed off and air
in the tires.

It has power steering and you had better jump on the tractor at that price. That is half of its value. It is diesel, power steering, live PTO with remote hydraulics all for FORD 8N price.

Thanks JD i do value yalls opinion on here alot. And the knowledge thats here. I was concerned about because its just sit the biggest part of its life.
