Did some scouting at the annual spring auction that has started about and hour ago here in Lowville. Saw one item I might bid on tomorrow if the price is cheap enough. Jeff has his eye on an old 770 NH forage harvester to use for chopping bedding. Only trouble is the darn thing is 1,000 rpm. It will have to go real cheap for him to bid on it. A couple of JD Van Brunt drills, maybe 3. Two IH grain drills in very nice shape. IH 5 bottom plow. 735 maybe? adjustable from 14" to 22". A nice JD 4 bottom hyd. reset mounted. saw at least two or tree more plows. The usual collection of worn out to barely usable tractors. An 85 series JD articulated that doesn't look too bad. A 9600 Ford with duals that didn't look too bad, but that doesn't mean much. A 170 AC that looks rough. Couple of other smaller Fords that have seen better days. A pretty good looking Case 350 dozer. The dozer just might be the best tractor there this year. A Gehl feed grinder. The usual conglomeration of manure spreaders. A nice Brady chisel plow, couple of field cultivators. (one of them the obligatory Brillion). Can't have an auction without a Brillion on wheels. A couple of discs. And the usual selection of small tools ranging from pretty good to absolute junk. Couple of smaller Stihl chain saws. They are doing the small stuff tonight. They hardly ever get it all sold though. They usually quit about 10-11 pm and sell the rest of the small stuff tomorrow. Guess I'll see if I can come home with anything I can afford tomorrow.

I went to one this morning. Farm auction with some halfway decent smaller stuff. All I was interested in was an Oliver grain drill,13 hole on rubber. Brought $650. I didn't want to go seven to see if the other guy was done. A Gehl 125 grinder mixer brought $5800 I think. Could have been 57. A 325 picker with a 12 roll bed went right up around $4000. The "big" tractor was a Ford 7700. $12,750 or 13.

I didn't hang around to see how an Oliver grain drill went at an auction a couple of years ago. Have regretted it every time I think of it since.

I had to laugh. The auctioneer tried to get me to bid $700. He said "We had one on a sale two weeks ago in Hemlock that brought 700". I said "It brought $575". Bidding stopped right there. He said "I guess I should have kept my mouth shut". lol

I don't know,if this one had been a 17 hole instead of a 13,I probably would have gone more, but my IH is a 17 and I didn't want to spend a whole lot to trade down to something smaller.

What model Oliver drill? wood or steel box? A retail price around here for a wood box on steel 13-7 drill is at least $800 and probably more. Haven't found any for a couple of years and dealers supply might be getting a bit low by now. It is at least 3 that I acuired for the dealers. Should have had a couple ready to go a couple of years ago but things including health get in the way.

I don't know for sure what model it was. Steel box,20 inch rubber tires. Mechanical lift, had the small seed box on the back of it behind the fertilizer box. They were yellow decals, said Oliver Superior,so I'm guessing mid to later 50s.

Hey is that Lowville,NY? Very pretty up there but too cold in winter and IDIOTS in the statehouse!

That is the one I thought it would be, later than the wood box. Just built way too heavy I could not give one away here but the people I work with use plain old horsepower as in Belgins and just too much weight there, some possibly would not even need a full seed box of seed.

The cold I can live with. The IDIOTS in the statehouse is another matter entirely, and I agree wholeheartedly with you. But I can't afford to leave or I would go.
