Cutting hay

I don't cut the lawn like most do so there's always some there its about 4 inches now . Started mowing last week the mower has a bagger on it and i feed that to baby calves the old dry grass makes nice bedding and the green grass gets them eating sort of green chopping .bigger calves are on stock piled grass only had one month off of grazing this year.

seeded a field last fall. It's almost an inch tall today... (in MA).

First cutting's still a ways away for us.

Wow, I just mowed the lawn for the first time yesterday here in SW OH.

To keep it hay related: I did do some broadcast by hand of clover seed and grass seed in my pasture thin areas yesterday. Used the ole Farmall m and small culti-packer to pack it into the ground lightly. With today's rains, I am hoping a good percentage of the seed takes root. First hay cutting for me will likely be end of May on Memorial weekend at the earliest.

I cut mine about 10 days ago and it has rained almost every day since. I have tedded and raked it about 3 times and finally yesterday I ran over it with the bush hog chopping it all up into small pieces. There it'll lay until I plow it under. Useless for feed as it is and I have a lot invested in it to sell it for junk hay. Better suited for soil enrichment. Will get my money back that way.

It will be about 3 weeks here. My ryegrass is knee high but needs to thicken up. I sprayed my lawn with roundup in early March so I won't be mowing it for a couple of weeks.
