Planted winter rye last fall for erosion. The rye did not get much of a start.Planted the rye on bean ground.Would like to spread fertilizer and disc it in hoping to kill the rye and incorportae the fert. The rye is 2 to 3 inches tall. Will the discing kill the rye? Thanks

Are you organic? If not organic then I would think the disk would kill enough that the stragglers won't be a problem. First application of post will get the stragglers.

MTC........umm; lets see iff'n I got this right; yer hoping to KILL yer rye by tilling it into the ground and at the same time spread fertilizer hoping it won't grow??? You believe that, I gotta a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. It takes about 2-weeks to kill rye by exposing its roots. Then you can apply yer fertilizer when ever you re-seed yer ground.........the amazed Dell

you planted the rye to help with erosion and now are going to disc? spray down rye with roundup. find a liquid machine and knife in fertilizer and plant into rye. if your going to spread dry, you might as well spray 28 with RU, same effect. I have done if every way possible and most have worked but discing in the spring will magnify your erosion problem!

Tried that one year only slowed the rye down but got lucky the oats and alfalfa came also .what I did was cut and baled it all the critters loved it. Can you wait and cut the rye when it won't regrow about when it's starting to head out then plant a crop after that?
