planting corn up north

I was just wondering when you guys up in the dakotas and Minnesota start planting corn? We're about 3 weeks away were I'm at in pennsylvania but are elevation is higher than were most farms are in pa! So we're a week or two behind them

Here in so. Mn. we usually start the last week of April. University says if you could plant all your corn in one day, that day should be May 1st. That being said I have several neighbors with corn in the ground already. ???

hey brian806 where in pa are you... here just north of scranton thinking about week or so should be off to a good start. ground is still a little cold. we have some ground that is little sooner to dry and work then other fiels and if all goes well next weekend . gonna aim for couple acres field corn and half acre or so of sweet corn .. . also want to get some seeded to oats and grass .

We can start in April, but may 1-10 is corn time. If things stay nice we will be planting next weekend.

Only planted corn for about the last 5 years, but we have done it as early as April 20th and as late as June 5th. We are 100 miles north of Minneapolis/st. Paul. My neighbor plans to put his corn in next weekend, I know I won't be ready. Saw several fields north of me where the drills were going all day planting oats today.

Here in the eastern part of North Dakota insurance won't cover any corn planted before the 15th of April so that is usually the start date. Fortunately this year is more normal for us compared to the last few years when guys were just getting into the field by the first of May due to wetter/colder than normal conditions.

I am in central Eastern ND, there have been corn planters in the field for a week now. Not many, but some have started. Most guys around me are going pretty hard on small grains right now. In a change from recent years, we need rain before too long. Its more critical to get the grain in early on a year like this, if it holds warm and dry, late planted small grain will just burn up come July, while the earliest planted fields will have already set heads by the time the heat comes on.

Insurance co. says guys can start planting April 11, so that they did. You'd think they all want to get done by this weekend. We have not started corn, no barn swallows yet and soils are cold. Next weeks forecast has 30's degree lows in it. We finished wheat and I hope we get some rain, very dry on top, no meaningful rain all spring. Plant in dust, your bins will bust? I can only hope. This I west central MN.

I live in Rochester and went on a road trip yesterday to Albert Lea on I-90. I saw three fields planted in corn, 2 planters in the field, 1 on the way, and a couple of tractors finishing field work.
