Queston About H's and M's

So, I have to get this new H home, and now I have purpose, because I broke a spindle on my H discing yesterday!!!! WOW! Kind of funny to hear a snap, then disc over you right front tire..... :

Anyway, I have that Charlyn Power Steering system off of the M, and I was wondering if it would fit onto the H? I am going to put the WFE on it, and thought it would be pretty trick if it had power steering!

The biggest problem I see at this point, is the steering shaft itself. Are they the same between H's and M's? Clearly it would have to be shortened up, and I do have a spare H one, maybe two now, so could I just cut on of those?

Just looking for ideas... Like said, other than that shaft, what all would be different? Pump should bolt onto the Gov fine, pully on the engine, that's it?! Right?

You will be making new brackets. I don't think any of the bracketry from the M will fit a H. Only other obsticle I can think of is whether the crank pulley will work.

That pulley will NOT just fit onto the engine. There is not sufficient space for it to slip between the crankshaft pulley and the front bolster. The entire front bolster needs to be unbolted and slid forward a few inches, and then slid back again.

But it will fit on there?

My thoughts here, are that I have to jack it up and remove the front end in order to put this new wfe on anyway, so I want to see if the powersteering will work on it, so that I can get it all together while I have it all torn apart...

Kind of wondering if I even need powersteering on the H? Will it make much difference on that tractor?

Crankshaft pulley from M wont work on a H. Most H with a dedicated power steering pump mounted it high on the left side of the engine and was powered from a longer generator belt.

No Bryce, you dont need PS on an H.Not unless you have a loader on it.Save the PS for your M. If the next M you buy has PS,then you can put the 'extra' ps unit on the H.

bryce, i have charlynn power steering on my h, as well as on 2 of my m's and w-9. best thing since pockets on a shirt. one finger steering on the h. the torque generator will fit either tractor. if the temp-oil pressure gauge bracket is the same, it will work too. do you have a separate power steering pump? the original eaton mounted on the side of the engine and you needed to cut a hole in the h hood for the resevoir to fit. im sure you could rig up a pulley to drive off the crank. or if you have a live pump, a priority valve will work. if you want all the manuals for the char lynn, shoot me an email, i have them scanned on my computer, i will send em to ya. email is open.

Hey Bryce --I put power steering on an h -- I used a pump and a torque gen. mount from a 350 -- then I used an original 1 gallon gas tank from a 1943 kerosine burner for the hyd. tank no what i mean vern or is this all greek I will try to say it better if need be -- Roy

Thats now what I am thinking... Will see what is what, need to get all the PS stuff rounded up and cleaned up...

Going to get the H Friday Morning...
