Tire question

Can a tire shop balance ATV tires? The Mitsubishi mini truck that I use on the farm has ATV tires on it (same size as the front of my Polaris four wheeler). It has a little shake to it at around 60 kph (it doesn't have miles on the speedo). A balance would help that but I thought before I went to the trouble of taking them off I would ask the brain trust.

They can theoretically be balanced, but does the rim have enough space for the weight and is the rim true enough to balance? Tires intended for off road do not typically have very true carcasses. The same can be true for off road wheels. I tried to spin balance a wagon wheel with a truck tire on it once, wouldn't balance at all.

Not sure if the rims would accept a lead weight. They do make a packet of tire balancer. You open the little packet and pour the powder into the tire when you have one bead of the tire broke loose of the rim. This powder is meant for big tires but they have a chart on how much to put in certian size tires. I forget what this is called but I heard it works.

Part 1: You can buy a bubble balancer from HF.

Part 2: They make lead weights that are flat and have a tape strip on one side; they glue on. Made for aluminum/magnesium wheels for hot rods....automobiles. Check with a tire shop or www.

I wouldn't bother balancing them and let the 'shaking' alert you to the fact that you are most likely exceeding the speed rating of the tires.

Most ATV tires are only rated for 30 MPH which is 48 KPH.

put some water in bucket , swing it around youhead if the water hits you in the face these will work if not then they are a SCAM.

You can balance the rims on those trucks, the Kei trucks were on the road in Japan with street tires that they balanced. The trucks ran up to 60mph, they didnt do that on unbalanced tires. You have an ATV tire on it so the only question is, can the ATV tire itself be balanced. It most likely can but the tire shop wont keep rebalancing it if it starts thumping in a few weeks, if they will even try at all (lots of tire shops crying "liability" and all that jazz). You can still find good tire shops though and a few will even balance a bagle for you, just have to look around.

If it was mine, I would go to WalMart and get a jar of airsoft BBs. Use the load chart for any of the balancing beads on the market, Im guessing 3-4 ounces will do it. Break the bead, dump em in, air it up and call it a day. Enjoy your smooth ride. I have done several tires, they work, dispite what the naysayers say.
