I got to seed some hay ground down to alfalfa and orchard grass. I used oats for a cover crop. The cost of the seed sure has not gone down any!! I seeded down 65 acres total including two waterways. It looked like the Farm progress show for while. LOL The boys have put all the new fangled GPS auto steer stuff in the field work tractors, JD 4960 and JD 8330. They wanted to try it out and get the systems fine tuned. So they ran the finisher over the ground I was seeding down. When you have a 31 foot and a 40 foot finisher 65 acres des not take long. I was using my JD 8300 24x6 drill. It took me all day to drill what they worked down in a few hours messing around.
They did find a real good deal on the Sunflower 40 foot finisher. A dealer had it in stock since 2012, unassembled. They got it for around 60% of the best price we could find for a current year machine. They did have to drive to ND to get it but they saved enough to make it worth while.
The 31 footer we have had for 14-15 years. It has been one of the BEST buys on the farm. It is a Sunflower as well. We have only replaced the shovels in all of the acres it has covered. The original blades are still within an inch of new diameter.
It really amazes me how fast ground can be worked anymore.
Also got a new digital camera. I took pictures of stuff during the day. The pictures look real good on the camera. It will not down load them. I even took it back to where I bought it and they can't get it to work either. They are replacing it but my pictures are toast. DARN!!!!
