Hello everyone;

Please check your books; My motor (engine) in my Farmall is dated; 5-21-Z, The serial number on the engine is 354898R.

What year and what cc is my motor???? I need this for buying parts and such for the motor<

All help is appreciated.

sincerely,
walt

Z means it is a '54 model. IH made about 6 different size tractors in 54.Each had a different size motor.We need the model number!(Cub;Super C,H;Super MTA;W/WD9.....)

"354898R" is not a serial number. It is the CASTING # of an engine block typically used in an International/Farmall "Super A" tractor.

But 'ol tractor engines have been known to get swapped around. A photo sure would help!

The "Z" suffix indicates the block was cast in 1954.

Hello;
How can I find the model number? The serial number plate is missing from my tractor. There is the number 8683-DE on the frame. At the PTO there is the number 9091-DA. I hope this helps to identify what I have. See the picture, maybe this will help.
Thanks to all,
walt

Without checking for sure I think that would be a Super A one or Super C engine, called a c-123 from the factory. Only way to tell for sure what the bore is now is to look inside. Should be a number after the R that would give a better idea, Or a engine serial number. May not have a serial if its a replacement block though. Block casting number makes it a C-123 block though.

The serial # is located under the #1 plug rite behind the throttle rod but that doesent mean that the engine hasnt been changed as the tractor is over 60 yrs old.

For your info the tractor is an A probably built in the 40s seat is not original and filter housing is from a real older engine so your best thing to do when you change oil is take old filter with you as its taller than common. Parts people could get confused. You can change the filter housing by getting a newer shorter one thats why they cut the hood. Look for the cast code on the tranny should be behind clutch pedal on the side and will be something like this 2*12*O meaning Feb2,1945 those codes are in different places on the tractor and will not all being the same its just the date the part was cast but it will determine what year it was assembled in Chicago. There should be a serial # on the seat support left bracket unless the tag or bracket has also been changed. Your original Mag has also been changed to a dist it can be an I-H or Prestolite as when the went ot the 12v system with an Alt hard to tell all the things that were changed.

the engine block was cast May 21, 1954. check the casting codes on things like the torque tube, transmission housing, cast wheel, etc. if they are also z codes, it would be a Super A, which was made from 1947-1954 according to 150 years of IH. but i thought that Super A's had the touch control hydraulic system under the gas tank. i don't see one on your picture. if the rest of your tractor has casting codes of Q (1947) or earlier in the alphabet, it would be an A with a later engine.
