VH4D in New Holland skidloader

Does anybody know what the endplay in the distributor shaft should be. I have one with at least an 1/8 of an inch and it breaks the rotor. This is in a L145 New Holland skidloader, and is driven by an aux. drive that also drives a belt pulley for an alternator on the lower side of the engine. thanks chris

Dunno about Wiscy, but typically endplay would be .005" to .010", just enough so the shaft doesn't bind when the aluminum distributor body expands mare then the steel shaft.

end play as in up and down movement should only be a few thou., 1/8 is way too much. how is it breaking the rotor, as the rotor has room to go up and down in the cap?
OR are you talking about bushing wear.? as this will break the rotor if it has too much side play and hits the wire contacts inside.

Up and down movement, seems ok side to side. Friend said the loader just stopped and he checked the ignition, so thinking it was the carb I rebuilt it but can get it to run very poorly just like before the rebuild of carb. So I looked at the distributor to day myself and found the rotor loose on the shaft with part of the mounting/bottom side of the rotor broke out. So thinking he didn't get it on there right went and bought a new rotor. Tried to start the loader and seen the cap dancing around, take the cap off to see new rotor broke like old one, cap doesn't show any damage. chris
