Heat nut red hot and allow to cool to ambient temp. Add some "loosen juice". Repeat the procedure another time or two then remove the nut when COOL.

Lots of guys will tell you to try to remove it while HOT, and that MAY work, but if it galls and sticks it will be stuck worse than before you started.

Putting it through a few heat and cool cycles will break it loose, and removing it when COOL, with lube will let you work it back and forth to loosen it up, then remove it, without the danger of it galling and sticking.

Internal threads come off HOT Internal come out after cooling. It does not take a lot of heat for a nut, but an internal part must get very hot to shrink.

When you get it hot, dab some candle wax on it - just as you remove the heat. As it cools, the capillary action will pull the wax in and help lubricate the threads. Sometimes it works, other times it don't, but at least candle wax is not flammable.

Good luck,
Bill

Thats what I do, and add a sharp crack with a hammer when cool to try and shock it loose.

Along with what Bob says, I"ve been preaching candle wax for years. Might take multiple apps, can work on spark plugs with only engine heat...BTDT a year ago on inaccessible (by torch) plugs on 4500 Ford backhoe. Wax never failed me. Give it time to soak in.

what kind of nuts? and on what? and how big? pretty vague as there is different ways that is applicable to the situation.
may not need torch.
can just split nut with chisel.

What kind of torch? If it's propane without oxygen, fugetaboutit. Oxyacetylene, heat the nut till it's red, take it off hot. If it starts to get tough to turn, add more heat and repeat until it's off. Generally you should replace the nut and bolt afterwards.

I usually heat red hot, and then immediately quench with water. I know not the best to maintain steel integrity. But it works, and will usually come off with your fingers afterwards. I have never cracked anything doing this.

>can work on spark plugs with only engine heat

JMS, explain to me how candle wax can get past the washer or taper fit that's good enough to hold combustion pressure.
