The real cost of buying new things

I bought that new disc mower/conditioner yesterday afternoon,so this morning, the carpet installer was here giving the wife a price on new carpet.
They always have to do something to even the score don't they? LOL

Haven't you figured it out yet? If you buy something new SHE get's to get something NEW she wants!!!! At least that's the way it works around hear. So always figure twice the price when buying something because she will get what she wants too. Bandit

Yours and mine musta been talking to each other. Sorry bout that. I bought a discbine last year.....

Wow...Mr "Got-Rocks"! Wasn't that a Flinstones character? You should let me borrow that...see if I like new equipment.

I feel your pain. The moco will make money. Not sure how useful carpet is helping around the farm.

But, I don't recommend you try that logic on her. My dozer vs. a new couch discussion failed miserably for me.

Rick

Something tells me you are still way ahead of her even if she does the whole house. Carpet is still cheap compared to farm equipment. Of course carpet is an expence and equipment is an investment that brings a return but just sayin'. Ask her when the "pay back" date is on the carpet? You should already have your answer ready if you bought new. Maybe "silence" is just the better way to go.lol

Yep that's (was...) me. Sold the 750 last week, got a new Kubota 2650 on order.

Decided my advanced years deserved a cab, suspension seat, power steering and live PTO for blowing snow. SWMBO agreed remarkably easily but was pretty breathless when she heard the price tag.

0/60 financing helps. Instead of whacking a wad of cash down on it, I paid off our '13 Tundra and will just roll the payment over to the tractor.

At the very least, SWMBO will get new winders in the dining room and kitchen plus other fru-fru house stuff to be determined.

If you bought that Deere new I'm betting you still got close to what you paid for it after all these years ? IIRC Dad's 750 was close to $ 7,500 or $ 7,800 ? with mower and blade and weights. back in 1982 ?

What I have found out with carpet sellers. They quote you a price for so many yards, usually too much. Then they quote the same yardage for padding, which they can cut and paste and use a lesser amount, but charge the same price as carpet yardage used. Stan

Well, I mighta let it go a tad on the cheap side.

I paid $9000 for the bare tractor in 1988, sold the tractor with a 67 loader for $5500.

I'm working it the opposite way. We're finishing up our kitchen this/next week, and I'm pricing new hay rakes!

Every time I buy another old tractor or a new shotgun my wife gets a new piece of furniture for the house. I just figure it in to the purchase price. $800 shotgun is going to cost me at least another $500. I always lie about what I pay for tractors!

yea i just smile everytime my wife brings something in the house, and when i do i get that look and just smile again. its a timesaver with less effert.

Year ago wife wanted new carpet, went and looked, ordered new carpet and pad, didnt ask the price, got on her about that ,fiqure it would be anyway 3K. It was 2/3 less than I thought. So I kinda watch myself now.
