0ff season roller pump care

I had a 4 roller Hydro brand roller pump, which goes on my PTO shaft, and pumps the spray dope, on my 55 gallon sprayer. I have been using it, for8 years, and just empty the barrel, in the fall, to protect from freezing. I put it on yesterday, and the pump was froze up, and wouldn't spin. I opened up the pump, and found it terribly corroded, with black rust, and I doubt that I will ever be able to clean it up. I have a new pump on order, and may get it next week. I guess roundup is bad for pumps, if let set in them. Should I take the hoses off for the winter, and fill the new pump with motor oil, till spring?, or will the oil deterate the blue rollers in the pump? The rollers seem to be made out of nylon, or something non metal. How do you guys maintain your roller pumps?

I fill mine with ATF and spin. That is after I flush it with water and rinse it with paint thinner or gas. My pump is not a RR pump and I spray RR with it. Going on 5 years with it no problems.

I have maintained mine the same every year since 21 years ago when I bought it. When I go to use I say shucks I didn't clean and oil it again. Upon I then take the cover off, pull out the rollers, clean it with WD40 and get the shaft to turn, clean the rollers, put it back together and use it. Shucks I forgot to take the pump off the sprayer again last fall. Oh well, Same ole same ole.

or 20 years, I just flush with fresh water, drain & dump a cup of diesel in it & spin a couple of times.

I fill it with used oil, spin it some, and take it off and put it in the basement for the winter.

Its froze up a few times in the past, I've just put it on a tractor, tie it down, and turn the pto on.

I spray more roundup than anything else. I have two 6 roller pumps I've used for the last 12 years or so. Neither one is recommended for roundup.

I pour 6 gallon or a case of camper antifreeze in my sprayer 300 gallon. After I drain and rinse it. Every once in a while every month or so I walk by it and see if it turns. It always has. But it has locked up during the summer after using that stuff that cleans the residue out of your tank and hoses.

I have a 6 roller pump from TSC for 20 years. If froze up, loosen the bolt around the end and then turn it. I could always turn it by hand then.

When in doubt read the directions in the box with the pump. What does that say? It says fill and flush with oil after the spraying is done. Hypro makes a special pump for Roundup.

Well I must have bought the small one, ( 4100 series ) But it was $80.00 8 years ago. I really hate to spend if I don't need to. I am going to take a chance and try ATF in the new one. The blue rollers, that I was concerned about, are polysomething, according to the pump mfg. web site, I hope they don't mind ATF.
