engune idea for a pickup

We all probly have heard of people putting a cummins engine in a ford superduty so I was thinking (scary) would it be posible to put a 400 series IH engine in a superduty pickup like a 466! Or is a 466 way bigger engine than a 5.9 cummins like physical size of the engine! Anyone think about trying this?

IHC is too big for easy swap. 5.9 cummins works nice;had one. From the 5.9 you can step up to a 8.3 cummins. Back of both engines are the same, but 8.3 takes serious work. 5.9 with P pump is most practical and makes a truck of a Ford.

way too heavy for a pickup. you wont keep a front end in the truck. got too remember the front end parts match the vehicle weight. put it in a 3 ton or so with a straight axle and it would be ok. just like those old ihc pickups in the 50's were front heavy and be stuck on wet grass.

I'd guess 98.5 and earlier. Nothing electronic about those engines. 94-98.5 were p-pumps. If you're interested in mods, those would be the way to go.

You could always try the 466's little brother the dt360. About the same physical size as the 5.9 cummins.

Ive got access to a non-turbo 6600 deere combine diesel id love to put in a truck, been sitting for years but was a good runner when parked.

I had an 04 F450 that I installed a 12V Cummins in 2009 and used the Ford 6 speed. Not a bad swap. Get you parts from Destroked. Any question just let me know.

Anything is possible. It just depends on your skills are to problem solve. I had a friend that put a 3208 turbo cat in a 79 Ford F350 with a Allison 30 years ago. When you open the hood it looked like it was factory. Boy you would have a truck with a 466 and 13 spd .

A friend of mine has a chevy ton with a two cylinder Detroit engine. It was probably converted 30 years ago.

Remember a hotrod magazine from my youth... Reader wrote in asking if he could put a Cadillac engine in a Nash Rambler... Editor said "You can put anything in anything if you have a big enough hammer!"

My question is, "Why?"

Most use the DT360 but there are several Fords that have the 466 in them. This is the place to go for swap info
http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1132014-dt360-or-dt466-swap.html

Both motors can be tuned to 1,000+ hp and up to 1700 ft/lbs of torque from the 466.....stock trannies and drive lines are not up to the task

A gas truck is a lot harder to convert to diesel. You need a donor diesel to convert plus you are changing brands too.

Offa, It looks like if you dropped your baseball cap in there you wouldn't be able to close the hood!

Just put your Ford cab on the whole Dodge chassis, engine, xmission, running gear & all!

If you want the speedo, odometer tach, temperature, oil pressure and the transmission to shift etc.How good are you with electrical and electronics? How much are you saving when gas is $2.69 and diesel is $2.99 ?
