I was wondering if a jd 2555 would handle a 8 foot bushhog or should I look at a 7 foot bushhog, the tractor is rated at 65 hp at the pto. Also do most people prefer the dual wheels on a bushhog or the single trailing wheel. ...thanks for your replies ...dale

For H.P. it probably depends on what your cutting. I would say 65 at the pto shoould be enough. I would get an 8ft with 2 blade carriers so it does not hang off the back as far. I would go with 2 tail wheels

It depends on what you are cutting. Heavy grass load will push the 2555, while trimming a pasture would be easy for it.
I like the dual wheels on my old 7' International Machine Co. hog. It is heavy duty and requires weights on the front end just to pick it up, so I like the idea of a 2 rotor cutter.

I have a 2555,, some of them are turbo charged at about 80 HP, but yes in average conditions it will handle an 8 foot swath, the double wheel question is only a problem when backing up mowing, the axle and wheels can sometimes be in the way when mowing up tight to posts and things, but for that wide of a deck they may help the mower travel better over rough ground. My 2555 measures 60 inches outside of tires. The mower will drift on the three point on side hills. Either one will work.
