I just picked up this wood boiler. I'm going to put it in my lean to and hook it into my oil fired system.

Brendon - some insurance agents insist that the outside boilers be placed a minimum of 50 feet from a building. That's definitely something you wouldn't want to learn after you finished installing it. NICE building and leanto!

Check on insurance as mentioned. My company and agent would NOT allow my wood boiler within 50ft of a building. Yes, they came and measured to the exact foot.

Now the pics show up. Wtf. Its an indoor boiler. Do you guys think insurance would give me a hard time over it? I know stupid question. My brother has an outside one. Its the most inefficient piece of crap. I intend on closing in the lean to and using the woodstove to throw some heat out there. I'm going to try a pic just to see.

I want an outside boiler. We have a forced hot air wood furnace and between the dust, hot cold cycles, dirt, chimney issues, etc. I'm sick of it. Of course good old NYS is doing their best to outlaw anything involving wood burning or external combustion in general!

Make sure your chimney is Metalsbetos/insulated type. It's well worth the much higher cost.

A friend who used to own a big plumbing company and then transitioned to development, then to semi retirement, sells "wood gasification" units that go indoors. He has one in the home that he built about ten years ago. My daughter was house sitting for a week for people who had one. It would burn about fourteen hours on a loading if not pushed too hard. The key to it was the blower that comes on when the system calls for heat.
