Yesterday I attended a farm sale near Rantoul,KS with (28) IH tractors on it....This very straight 1962 model Farmall 560 Diesel sold for an unreal $8500..I guessed it at $4,000...It was one the nicest farm used 560's that I've seen..It started and ran great.

Check out the IH forum on here for lots more pictures and prices of the 1456 IH,(2) 1206 IH's,Super MTA Diesel-etc..My 560 diesel isnt quite as nice but I paid $7,000 less for it 2 years ago..

Did you make a mistake and put too many 0s in amount? The 560D was the worst IH tractor along with the vibrating 400D that we ever had. Then we had an IH 2 ton truck with the BD engine that spun the rod bearings. So I have a bad taste from those. The 460D seemed to be much better and of course the Ms were the old standby.

Can't count the number of 560D that i bought and SOLD over the years and most of them were really nice tractors and at the time for that amount of money there would have been three 560's and a couple 706's on the load. Most i ever sold a 560 for was 295 and it had nice paint and almost new tires with a working T/A . Tells me two things here people are either NUTS or they just want to throw money away .

We had a 560 Diesel and a 460 Gas. I would take the 560 over a 460 any day...I guess it just depends how a person treats them and what they expect from them can make the difference...

All I can say is it only takes two fools at an auction for that to happen. Nice straight old tractor but we all know with that D282 it will have a head gasket or head problem sooner or latter. This part of the country on a good strong auction day maybe 4 thousand a most and probably more like 25/28 hundred in most auctions.

This isnt just a reply just to Ray but to everyone.....It was announced at the sale that the family would be bidding on some items and the high dollar 560 could have been one of them..It wasnt an estate sale as I talked to the owner...

I wouldnt pay $8500 for any 560 but all this one needed was paint..It had no oil leaks...The engine started and ran great and didnt slobber like lots of them do...The TA worked..The fast hitch wasnt all busted up like lots that I see..You can easily drop over 10K in totally restoring a 560 diesel....I've seen it done..

560's often get a bad rap but I'll bet there were 20 of them in my county when I was growing up..They were the main tractor on some of the biggest and best farms and made their owners lots of money...Some probably had 5000-10,000 hours on them before they got rid of them..Several were traded for 4010 JD's while others were traded for 806 IH's..

I grew up on a 1959 model 460 diesel that was 4 years old when Dad got it in 1963...It came from a large farm and already had 3000 hours on it and the tires were bald..It probably wasnt the best tractor we ever owned but I have great memories of it..I bid on the 460 diesel pictured above that sold yesterday for $2600..It definitely needed an engine OH.....My $1500 1958 model 560 diesel needs an OH as it will barely start on an 90 degree day with 6 new glow plugs in it..

There's a lot of 560's and 460's in this part of the world and nice go for less than half that.

We have two in the family, one of which has been with us since the 60's. The 282 is not overbuilt by any means but is more than adequate for that chassis when used with common sense. They're also miserly on fuel. Fantastic hay tractor IMO; heavy enough but not too heavy.

A 460 over a 560. Wow is all I can say. I always wished I had enough money laying around to buy a 460 diesel just to get even with the darn things.

At least two people with the CASH thought it was worth that kind of money so I guess it was worth it.I can remember when I paid $2800 for a John Deere
330 back in the 80's everyone said how crazy that was sold it for $4500 and if I had it today it'd be worth 20K+.So maybe the buyer was a little smarter than you think.

$8500 is crazy. Like it's been said on a given day there's no making sense of high or low bids -- just depends on who's there and has the gotta-have-its
