OT: Speaking of thieves

Last week I posted about a friend of mine whose new Ford fusion was stolen from a parking lot that was in eyesight of his table in the restaurant. It was at a relatively new, popular micro-brewery near downtown Detroit.

They found his car a few blocks away minus the wheels and a few scratches on the bumper where they evidently pushed it. A couple of days after it was stolen, 2 listings on eBay popped up in the area with ads for wheels JUST LIKE HIS! Imagine that.

Well, yesterday 2 Fed cars were stolen from the SAME LOT with laptops, etc. They got the dogs out, helicopters and are "processing the cars for evidence". Oops, guess the thieves should have stuck to targeting just good ole US citizen's cars. The cops were there in "seconds". I guess it's a regular occurrence at this place. Evidently the "increased patrols" didn't do any good.

My neighbor had the wheels and bucket stolen off his
skid steer. Called the NYS troopers about it filed a
report. Month or so later he tracked down his stuff.
Told the police where it was. They wouldn't do
anything. The cops said insurance paid you didn't
they? He went and bought his stuff back from a guy
that bought it from the theif. Goes to show the cops
here aren't going to do any police work

Dealer in Chicago and dealer in Baltimore each had an incident where individuals came in and rented one of our high priced forklifts. Then they notified the dealers that for $XXXX dollars ransom, they would tell the dealers where the machines were hidden.

Turned out one of the fellow was a minister; guess he didn't consider it stealing if he just held it for ransom. When word got around, the dealers would not rent a machine to anyone that they hadn't done business with previously.

there is one vehicle a former boss found out that thieves wont touch, a ;70's chevy luv truck, he had one rusted out, worn out, what was left was the most gross shade of green you could ever imagine, it did run, and he offered it for sale, 500 bucks, no takers, dropped the price to 150 bucks, no takers, he then drove the truck to a mall in el paso tx, where the life expectancy of a vehicle is about 5 minutes, the mexican border is less than a mile away, he left the truck with its keys in the ignition, and the windows rolled down just to get rid of it..... 2 days later back up here he gets a call from the el paso police dept, seems they impounded this green chevy luv truck registered to him, abandoned in a parking lot, he now owed them 600 bucks in various charges...

I have to brag on the our fine police force in Lone Jack, Missouri! Their is not a speeder or an over the road trucker that is not targeted by them, if you need an eighty year old man pulled off his tractor and bruised and abused, they are your people! If you have something stolen, or a crime has been committed you are plumb SOL!

I was downtown Det. Monday with a school bus. I had our HS Girls Basketball Team for a News Conference. It cost 60 bucks to park the bus in a lot for an hour. I still had to stay with the bus to make sure the Girls had a ride home.

Not the only small town in MO like that. Some in my area. One small town up the road, approx. 400 population, on a small two lane highway, and they have at least 3 police vehicles (nice new Tahoe, Dodge Ram pickup, Near new Charger, and a Durango). Usually at least one is out with radar, one is sitting at the school ("resource officer"), one or two sitting in front of city hall. Oh, and they just purchased one of those portable trailers with the radar and speed readout and parked in front of the high school. Oh, and they keep a full time court clerk busy processing the fines. And they wonder why the population has slowly gone down, and only a couple businesses survive.

I know what you mean. I was followed all the way to the county line from Jefferson County one night when I made the mistake of stopping in Desoto. The manager at the Pizza Hut advised that I get out of town.

The speed traps in Mo are gone, just as soon as the Feds shut them down. I am guessing the 15th of June.

Every cop I have ever seen goes where the money is. The Mayor In our Fine MN. city had all her blue gang members trained for commercial vehicle violations. Specifically overweight trucks. A blue gang member would park close to a pit, when a truck would come through the scales overweight he would call the blue gang member. The pit guys may have got a cut???? That did get stopped but she (the mayor) has now moved on to new revenue getting schemes. Whenever a scheme of hers drys up she moves on to another.

SIL had a Datson Z 2 door HT with removable HTs. One day after
work he showed up at his car parked in a fenced, video monitored,
company parking lot in N. Texas small town of 25,000, low crime
rate and all.

He finds out the local Chevy dealer takes care of Datson body work.
So he goes to the dealer and tells the service guy he wants his
missing T tops replaced.

The guy asked him: "YOU WANT NEW OR USED?"

A local towing company was busted because the owner was renting U-haul trucks and then swapping the engines with his wreckers. He still has an AAA contract.
