How much tractor do I need for a 12 row planter

Hi, I have a Ford 9600 rated at 135 horsepower. It has duals and fluid in the rear tires. Would I beable to handle a 12 row no till planter with liquid fertilizer. I am interested in a Case IH 900 12 row air planter with liquid fertilizer. It runs off the PTO i believe. It is going to be up for auction this weekend and I wanted to make sure my old Ford could handle it.

Could not say yes or no for certain but after a bit of google searching found a few threads showing that some are pulling these in flat fields with 90MFWD and 100HP with duals.

Hope this helps

I pull a 12 row 7200 Deere regular till no fertilizer with a 1086 and I don't even know it's back there. 1086 has something like 135 HP so I would think your Ford has enough oomph to pull the planter you are looking at. Neighbor used to pull a 16 row 7200 with dry fertilizer along with the separate fertilizer openers with a cranked up 4630 Deere with heavy wheels and fluid in the inside tires and it was all the tractor wanted.

A friend pulled 12 rows with 110 horse two wheel drive with
duals in northeast nebraska. No liquid though just dry. Worked
ok for him but he has moved on to 120 horse with fwa.

My brother pulled a jd 12 row front fold with dry
fertilizer with a case 2290 for many years. You will
need a good set of front weights if you want to be
able to steer in the hills tho.

you can pull it. it should be a 2pt with lift assist wheels. will need duals for sability. I'm not familiar with fords but with my AC, I had to bump up the hydraulic pressure up to 2500 lbs, which wasn't a problem, just the right shim!

Here is my 12 row set up, liquid, no duals. Does fine.

We pull a 12 row, no fertilizer, with a 4020 John Deere @100HP and duals. It really should have about a 140HP tractor, I think you should be fine as long as not to hilly.

I pull a 12/23 2600 kinze with a T6030 New Holland mfwd no
problem at all and have a few hills. Your tractor shouldn't know
it's back there.

Remember most posters mentioned
pulling a JD planter. If are going to
spend money for seed and fertilizer need
to plant consistiont depth and
population. A kinzie is OK also.

I used to pull a 12 row 7000 with liquid fertilizer
behind a 4430 here in the hills of northeast neb
tractor played with it...now we pull 36 rows with a
8360r

Does anyone have opinions on the Case IH 900 air planters? I have heard that many have seed spacing issues, but then some people say that they do an excellent job. If any of you have heard of or used an IH air planter 800/900 cyclo, let me know what you think of them. The one I am looking at has been completely rebuilt last year and only has 300 acres on the new rebuild.
