Seams no mater the problem some one here can help. Here is the problem with my 08 Ford Edge. I started out in drive this morning the car didn't shift to a higher gear. I went to N and back to D while driving in low it shifted to a higher gear. I shut it off and restarted the motor, it shifts normal now. This is the second time this has happened. The first time I took it to a shop, they couldn't find any codes, or problem. The car has 43,000 mi. The level is also ok. While at the shop I had them drain the and refill the transmission. since there is no pan, or filter to be checked or changed, that is all that could be none, without removing the tranny. Thanks for any help. Stan

I'm not a transmission tech. When it was misbehaving did you have a transmission light illuminate or flash?

Sea Foam does make a transmission product that's supposed to clean & free sticky trans valves and solenoids, I think I'd try that.

Likely, it is a 'puter issue and when you shut the car off and restarted it the powertrain 'puter rebooted and worked properly.

Perhaps, the battery is getting old and weak and system voltage drops excessively during cranking scrambling the 'puter.

Or, there could be a poor connection somewhere in the power or ground wiring at the battery, or elsewhere.

I would agree with the computer issue. We had a 2006 Ford Freestyle. I believe the computer on it was "reflashed" over 15 times the 4 years we owned it.

One day it refused to start and Ford hauled it back to their shop. They spent 3 days checking everything from compression to the COPS and finally out of despiration they reloaded the computer program (flashed) - something that had a done a few weeks earlier on another warranty trip - and fired up and ran like a charm. Traded it on a Kia Minivan and never looked back.

I figured with a computer issue it would store codes, or should, that was the whole point of OBD software, you don't have to witness the malfunction just look at the digital log and it'll tell you what was wrong.

I work on transmissions at Ford dealership. The TSS sensor or OSS sensor can cause this issue. Sometimes they will quit for a second, then start working a again. May or may not set a code. They are located inside transmission under main control. If you can take it to a dealer they should have information on it. The new sensors have been updated to work better. It is best to always replace both sensors at same time.
