Just read an article in a dive publication about a couple from canada on a scuba vacation in florida and georgia. They were diving off tybee island a couple weeks ago in wassaw sound near the mouth of the savana river when they discovered a huge metal cylinder partially buried in the sand. It was a mk-15 3.8 megaton hydrogen bomb that was dropped on feb 5 1958 from a b 47 strato fortress after it collided with an f-85 sabrejet. The pilot was instructed to drop the bomb before landing. It was supposed to be recovered but never found. The bomb took 48 hours to dis arm and recover. Holy cow, hope i dont hit one with a chisel plow.....apparently therevare quite a few that were lost and never found.

Knew there was one in the Savannah River I had not heard anyone found it.

from the movie "Broken Arrow ":

I don't know what's scarier losing a nuclear weapon or that it happens so often there's actually a term for it

Well it's about time they found it! The TV show said all kinds of people with all kinds of equipment couldn't find it. Just gives you that warm fuzzy feeling when you see stuff like this don't it?

I am really surprised this wasnt all over the news. I think this was way more important than the kerdashins or bruceilla jenner. And the show i saw a while back said it fell in the okeefenokie swamp and would never be recovered. Hmmmmm....

HUMMMM!!!!!!!
Now I am confussed.
Do I believe World News Daily Report or do I believe Wikipedia?
Decisions Decisions.

I just checked on snopes.com. Looks like the story is false. The bomb has yet to be found.

Did you see that??!!

They called us gullible readers!!

If it comes in an e-mail, it has to be true!!

I have never plowed up an A bomb. One time I lost a log chain, next year I found it with the mower, wish I hadn't found it that way

I saw something on History channel or Discovery a few years ago about that incident and they have been looking for a long time but haven't found it yet. They also lost 1 or more off coast of Japan in deep water that have not been recovered but I think they monitor radiation levels there . Then there was another incident off of coast of Spain when a B-52 had a refueling accident or something and one was dropped into the sea and later recovered. Gives you a warm fuzzy feeling.

It cant fire without electricity and the Nuclear material is sealed inside the bombs sphere.I was stationed at NSS 8462 MOS 436.10 Electronic Assy Nuclear Weapons.

Guess if I found it I'd keep it give me a reason to go buy me one of them thier airplane toting tractors they use to use and pull my bomb around! Then post pictures on this here site! Hahahahaha

My father-in-law says when he was in the Air Force in the early/mid 50s they dropped an atomic bomb on the runway at Lockbourn Airbase near Columbus after they had landed and stopped. Some sort of malfunction in the mechanism. I understand there was heck to pay, and of course, there was no mention to the press about it.

(quoted from post at 04:51:35 03/05/15) I read this article a couple of years ago.
It's amazing how much ordnance they still find over there.

They find a few WWII era bombs every year too especially in Germany.
