Can any one tell me how this print shipping label works on paypal THE REASON I ASK THE COST SEEMS MUCH CHEAPER THAN I WOULD GET AT A STORE. Apparently they fill it all out but how does FEDEX or ups know to get it??? If any one has done this I would appreciate your wisdom. Is there any pitfalls. thanks

You print the label, attach it to the package, and then take the package to the post office or your nearest FedEx drop off point. Only pitfall is if your printer runs out of ink or otherwise fails to print. That glitch can also be worked around, but it is a headache.

If you are going to use the online label printing, you really do need a scale to weigh the package.

If you know the weight, and are honest, the price of shipping is about the same as just going to the post office.

I have not done UPS or FedX. I assume you'd print the label, attach it to the package and then take it to their facility or around here in some business parks hey have drop boxes for them to get the package.

With USPS you print and attach the label then over on the left hand side of the page towards the bottom you have a link to request a pickup. Go there and tell USPS you want it picked up with your next mail delivery and where you will leave the package for them to get it (front porch, etc.). It's free.

And yes, USPS shipping prices via ebay are cheaper than at the post office. Actually aside from ebay you can purchase postage at the USPS site and they even charge less than at the post office too--because it's online vs taking an employee's time. But ebay is even better in another way. Ebay offers USPS ground parcel select service and you can print your postage online, while you can't do that via the USPS web site--they only let you print priority or priority express postage online. Why? I have no clue. But if I want to ship a Christmas present cheap I have to take it to the PO to get ground rates. If however I sell something on ebay I can print ground postage right there and tell them to come get it on the front porch.

I'm honest when listing size and weights. I assume USPS checks and if I was off by much either I would be contacted to pay more or it would be held postage due at the buyers PO. Either way the seller will be POed if there is a problem that delayed shipping or that cost them money thus to ensure smooth shipping I'm honest with my weights and sizes.

Be VERY careful using them. I did because the shipping was cheaper, then after I had shipped the items I was charged by Ebay thru PayPal for the extra. One 18.00 item that I sold had a calculated (and the weight was correct) shipping amount that was printed on the label of $13.00. I was charged by Ebay thru PayPal for UPS $83.00 more. It's a definate rip off in my opinion. I won't put a shipping amount on anything again. I put local pick up only then put in item description that I will charge the actual shipping charges or ship C.O.D. It's your transaction so you do what you want, I just told you the experience I had & hope you don't have the same thing happen to you. Keith

I have daily UPS pickup and have world ship on my factory shipping computer to print the labels for UPS. Dixie prints the USPS labels and pays with paypal from her computer. I only use flat rate boxes when shipping USPS. When I sell something on Ebay I ignore the print label part.
As of the first of the year UPS now will change the weight they charge from actual weight when the box is of a larger size than they think it should be.

Rusty - you mentioned printer troubles - I ordered several small tools from different sellers, and they all arrived but one. Tracking number wouldn't work. I was a new EBay user, so I filed a claim. The seller found that a label she had printed was too light to read, and the package was sitting at the Post Office until she went in to check on it. Post Office couldn't even read the return addy. It finally arrived in good condition. She had a 99.9% rating, so I'm sure it was a one time thing.

Yes, it's pretty handy as the address is already entered. A couple clicks and you have a label. Ebay makes a big deal of the discount but actually it's the same discount you can get online if you have your own account. I have a every day pickup rate I get from UPS so I print those labels direct from UPS. But for the post office I find the ebay service easy to use. I have never shipped with fedex but I assume just like UPS there is an option to "request a pickup" This will be an extra cost service. You might have to go to their website and enter the label number to get it. To avoid this pickup charge you will either have to make a deal with your driver or catch him in town or drop the package off someplace where he stops. Most small communities have a place designated where packages can be left for pickup. Just run your local driver down and ask. Don't try to call the toll free number. That will get you nowhere.

Do Not use economy settings to print your label. They don't need to be photo quality but the barcode needs to be clear and dark. Nothing used to pizz me of more than having to stand in the snow and cold manually entering a string of numbers, because some e bay tycoon was to cheap to use a good print setting.
