Tee Pee on farm

Would like to set up a real Tee Pee on farm on Bluff overlooking Copperass Creek Valley for church campout and leave up most of the summer. Are there any used ones for sale? Where do you even begin to look for one? To stay on topic I'll store John Deere 214 inside when not camping

If you know anyone who belongs to the National Muzzleloading assoc. or your state muzzleloading assoc., that would be a good place to start.

Dixie Gun Works may be able to help you out, too.

Another possibility might be Old Western Scrounger.

Depends on how you want it to look. If color isn't a concern just use some telephone poles or hedge trees and then cover with one of those bale stack tarps. Those are often silver, not buffalo hide tan. It sounds like you want it big. You biggest headache will be getting them to lean agains each other so you can get in he loader of the tractor and lash them tight together. I believe that's how the natives did it - leaned them and then went around the point where they meet tight with rope.

Call Don Strinz, 2325 O St. Road, Milford, NE 68405. 402-761-3244.

He lives a couple of miles from me and manufactures tipis commercially.

I built one decades ago just for the fun of it. That said if you have any mountain man festivals around that is a good place to start asking questions. Most of those festivals have a good many Tee Pees set up in there camp sites

How in the world do you think they got a good bleed out on those buffalo??? Tie it to the stinger and hoist it high! I can't be the only one here who carefully read the history books. Sheesh.

When we did that at the Church, we used cane poles and a big tarp for covering, just like the Boy Scouts do.

Just curious, where are you located? I live about a mile north of Copperass Creek in Rock Island County, Ill. Chris

I have 2 windows open, and select and copy the website address from the "Tipi site".

When I open the "Reply to" button on the Tractor Talk website (other window), I paste the address in the "Optional Link URL" box, then I add my own title for this link in the "Link Title" box.

Here I called it "More Tipis".

There is likely an easier way, but then again, I am not the brightest light in the hall!
More Tipis

When I was a kid someone lived in one near my house for a year or better. We went past it on the scoop bus route.

I have slept in one. Neighbor had one. He went by the name of Ozark Dan.

A modern day hippie, blackpowder, Mountain man, trapper, live off the land, do anything but work type guy.

It was made with canvas. Pretty neat.

That was 20 years ago, not sure if he still has it.

They are around.
