OEM Trailer Brakes

Trying to diagnose OEM trailer brakes on a 06 F250.

The controller won't apply the brakes unless you use the manual over ride.

The indicator light comes on, the stop lights work, but no automatic output from the controller.

Any ideas what to check first or where to find a schematic?

I'm no expert on it,but I had some problems with my 07 when I first got it. There are two fuse boxes on mine, one under the dash and one under the hood. Most of the trailer fuses are in the one under the hood.

I am having similar problems. Trailer brakes were working, I pulled the trailer connector loose, put on new connector, got lights, brake lights, and turn signals working, no brakes. The manual control did not activate brakes either. Indicator light worked for awhile, then quit. Took controller off, took it to a place that sells travel trailers, they checked the old controller , said it was bad. I got new controller, haven't installed it yet.

The trailer brakes are activated off the brake light circuit. Check to see if you have brake lights on your truck.

I had the same problem with my 94 Chev. Hooked the wire to the brake light switch and it didn't work , but I used the slidder on the box. It was okay but a bit jumpy .

Thanks Glen, I found that site earlier. Haven't really found a solution yet.

I've read a lot Q&A's about them being poorly programed, where they don't apply the brakes unless the truck is moving above a certain speed. I haven't found any complaints of them failing though.

Going with the aftermarket is going to be last resort, no good place to put it, hacking the dash is NOT an option, and disconnecting the OEM will set a check engine code, have to go to the dealer and have that programed out(?).

If I knew for sure a new OEM would fix it, I'd buy it. Just not sure if it's in the controller, the ECM, or the communication between the two.

He's going to bring it back with the trailer on a warmer day so I can do some real world tests, see what I find.

Thanks!
