I tried watching online at home but the computer had trouble running the program. I talked to a friend who was there and I will give his take.
Land. Tillable land was 8000 per acre on average. High quality land that a substantial amount is suitable for vegetables. I did not see any soil maps but I think some of the ground is along the Genesee River so irrigation is possible. Also, BTO presence is intense in the area. All in all the situation when you look at all the factors is not typical for a lot of NY ag. Forgot to mention one of the few areas left where vegetables are still processed or where the processors will conduct business in.
Equipment brought good money but I guess there were a few bargains such as a JD 450 end wheel grain drill. 4000 series Deere's brought good money. 4250 open station recent paint was 31,000 dollars. Combine was 100K.

Bob, if I had the money I would have definitely been interested in the land. I have always liked the country over that way and a lot of the land that is not next to the river is productive but there are pockets of ground that are subpar for the area. I know I don't talk about where I am but I am over by Geneva so my "home base" is quite a ways away from there.

$8000 an acre ? Must've been a discount the last
sale RTI had in neighborhood was 11k/acre. Thought the open platform 4250 was high, the two 4455 MFWD
cab tractors brought 37.5 and 36k each.

Like I said that was the price on average. A fellow could go to the Livingston County offices and know right to the penny. Also I believe a few of those parcels contained some woodlands. So the approximately 8000 per acre was for every acre in a given tract. If you figured the woodlands as scrap land then I am sure the price gets much closer to the 11,000 dollars per acre. I think it was Harris-Wilcox that had the other sale as they are selling the equipment in a couple of weeks. That area is the high rent district in terms of New York agricultural land.

The prices of the 4455 and 4555 were still pretty good for the seller compared to what I have seen around these parts. They did not fall in the category of being around 3000 hours and put away every night and never been in the rain and so on. I guess the Landoll disc went under what it should have gone. I went to a sale last year and there was an approximately 27 foot Krause and that brought around 41,000 dollars if my memory is any good.

Nice area over that way and if money were no object I would not have minded farming there. There are lots of nice parts of New York but the Western Finger Lakes and Genesee regions hold a special appeal. It probably helped that once I got into college it seemed all the desirable women were from that area.

NY986 snd Bob Bamcroft, I am located about 25 miles from yesterdays auction. We must live within an hour or less from each other.
There are at least 6 farms within a few miles of that Piffard auction. One of the farms was renting ground 60 miles away and trucking corn silage the last few years. This ground just over the hill and good too would be very attractive.
One of the biggest things driving up land prices is CAFO. Everybody around this area is adding cows and they need the land to comply with EPA and DEC.

I had guessed you were farther west.

I watched most of the auction. The audio and video quit, but the print part kept coming. As I have said, I am not much of an auction fan. But this winter is getting to me enough, that if it had been a nice day, I might have gone. There might have been one of those many sets of duals I could use. I thought the PTO alternator went cheap enough too.

I stand corrected,Harris Wilcox had the sale
with the 11k/acre ground. Main street Geneseo
is still worth a slow drive on warm spring days.
Wouldn't want to hit a pedestrian ;)
