2 drum hay mowers

The one in the second picture (the red one) is like mine, made in
Turkey under several badges. Great machine, few moving parts,
built like a tank, priced right. Only takes a few minutes to
change blades and where I buy them they are 25 cents apiece,
are sharp on both sides so you can use them on one drum and
when worn, move to the other drum and cut with the other side.

Once you run one of these babies, I doubt you will go back to a
sicklebar. Just no comparison.

Some folks don't like the windrows produced like in the second
picture. Personally that solves one of the problems I always had
with sickles: getting a clean, full cut of the next row.
Additionally, your tractor tires are not rolling on cut grass when
you come around for the next lap and I like that too.....if your
tractor is setup on the same dimension as the cutter. I have a 6'
cutter and my tractor tires are at 6'.

Some folks don't like the road position of the red one which is
straight out the back, but if you change out the bar on the right,
holding up the outside of the cutter with a hydraulic cylinder,
you can stow the cutter like you see in the first picture and
changing from road to mow position is as simple as moving a
hydraulic lever.

Hi, Do those drums rotate cw and anti cw. toward the middle? I have never seen one up close but have many hours on a sickle type. Ed Will

The drums rotate clockwise & anti-clockwise. They will cut thick heavy crops faster than sickle bars, especially if the grass is laying down. And no hours lost riviting new blades on, sharpening blades and avoiding blockages!

They were very popular until the multi-disc mowers came out which leave 2 or more swathes that dry out faster.

Disc mowers are the normal mowers here, can be used for hay, haylage or silage. Mo-Co's are used for silage where the fingers bruise the grass for faster wilting. They are faster speed mowing than drum mowers.

I have a Reece drum mower. 8 ft. No
gear boxes. But has a 350 dollar
belt. I keep a extra. But they last 3
yes or so. Only problem is heavy.
Need to be careful on the road.
