You didn't happen to see the same Bearcat with a Cat 3208 and the Allison auto on Craigslist here in MI, did you? If you did, looks like pretty cheap horsepower either way.

Don't know about most of them, but the one I ran had a manual transmission. Sure liked that armchair that you sat in!

The guys I talked to in North Dakota said they aren't the best for heavy tillage. The trans tends to run hot and burn itself up. You'd have to get a bigger one to pull the same equipment than if you had a gear transmission.

I think the one I ran was a Panther? Had a 3406 with an automatic in it. Never had issues with the engine or transmission. They had some Big Buds set up exactly the same. Again, motors and trannys were fine. Wiring, and rear ends were issues.

I assume you mean Bearcat Series two. According to this website and PDF, the Bearcat was never available with a Allison. Had to go up to a Cougar. We own Steiger CA 280 which uses a 3406 in front of a 10 speed Allison. Two words to describe the combo. Freaking Awesome.

Hello greenenvy and all you others . This particular Steiger has had an engine transplant using the Cat. with the Allison hooked to it.
I think it had the Spicer behind the Cat. to begin with. Not sure how that works.......

WP,
I would like to add that not only the wiring and rear ends were troublesome but the planetary hubs, hydraulic system, banded duals, air conditioning system, clutch and a few other things were troublesome. I had a 325 Panther and was never so glad to see anything go down the road.

We had a Versatile 976 that was a POS. I guess neither Steiger or Versatile could build a decent tractor.
