farmers and the cold weather

I was raised on a small farm,so I am familar some with farming, but now live on a 1 1/2 acre lot.We had two goats here,my wife and daughter were in 4h .We have one goat still doing well,he is 14 years old,As we take care of him in the winter, especially this morning,I thought of all you farmers, and how much tougher it is to take care of animals in the severe cold.I just wrote this post to give you all credit and sort of shake your hand for all you do.

Well said, Larry! The opinion I expressed some time ago when everyone started walking up to any guy in uniform and saying "thank you for your service" was, well..that's great. Certainly appropriate. But it got to the point that it was just trendy and you did get the impression that most of the folks saying it were reading off a card. I kinda felt that, having had more than a taste of what it was like to raise livestock, raise a crop, put up hay, etc, that we ought to have one day a year that we show gratitude for those who feed us. Don't hold a ceremony, though. Not many in agriculture would show up. Likely they be working.

A little like the car sticker I saw a few days ago (and HOW appropriate for me)..

"I was a VietNam Vet Before it became Popular"..

We DO all appreciate ANY recognition that sets us above the Draft-Dodgers who will forever remain COWARDS, in my mind..(including those who opted out on religious grounds)..

It's no fun Larry, everything is frozen,, everything is drifted in with snow, it's -1 right now with a gusty wind. Lol

A pic of my cold Ford for you Larry!

While I was out there this morning trying to keep those animals from starving or dying of thirst,I got thinking. If you guys are tired of cold winters, you need to all get together and take up a collection. Start some kind of a trust fund for me to live on and I'll sell the cattle. If I don't ever have to go out there in weather like this again,we'll get mild winters for the rest of our lives. lol

Farmers do the jobs that most in society will not do. Farmers work really hard for the privledge to not live like everybody else because they do not want to live like everybody else.
