Stockyards Farm Supply Peoria IL

This was another cool place from the 70's. As a kid you walk in the front door and go straight to a galvanized 2 hole pig feeder full of warm peanuts, fill your pockets and hands with peanuts, then walk around the store looking at livestock stuff, eating peanuts and dropping shells on the floor what a cool thing for a kid,Canton Farm King or Huffman's Fort Madison give out popcorn while shopping , but there was nothing as cool as warm peanuts and dropping shells on floor to a kid.

AHHHH- The 70's....I was in a big city college then and had very little money to eat on.

A couple of times each month a mall would put in a big plastic pool filled with trout and let you fish in it for 1$ for 30 minutes. Basically a stick with about three feet of line and a hook with a 1/4" by 1/4" leather tab for bait.

Mostly, it was parents letting their yougin's try to catch a fish and have some fun.

As I watched, nobody was catching anything. So I thought I'd give it a try. Fish were not interested in the leather tab as bait. So I started 'snagging' them and would fill up a small bag of trout in a short time.

Back then you could buy a 5 pack of Mac n' Cheese for a buck.

So that was usually my dinner. Skillet cooked trout with Mac n' Cheese for about 25 to 30 cents per meal.

No warm peanuts but the daughter works at the TSC store on Washington Street now by the "stockyards" in PeoRia, Illinois.

That's how I got through college, skimping on everything. I weighted less after I graduated from college than I did when I started high school - but I made it through without a student loan.
