Brain Teaser for all

Several got it right. 2, 4, 3. I heard this the other day and was really puzzling it over. I never got it till someone told me the answer. So I am not the brightest bulb in the box either.

Now who can tell me why a man hole cover is round?

another one, you go to a sale with $100.00. Horses are $10 each, hogs are $2.50 each and chickens are .50 cents each. You have to buy some of each type of animal. You have to buy exactly 100 animals and spend exactly $100. How many of each do you buy?

I hate math and could not figure that out in the terms you posted it, but Wolfman pointed out how to figure it out.,maybe it's simple for others but I'm no good at all with math. Good post none the less. My brother is very good in math I asked him I'll see if he can figure it out! Lol

That is like asking...What is 11 + 3?

Answer is 2.

The question was not posed with the relevant information......

11 A.M. + 3 hours = 2 P.M.

Wait a minute I was wrong Wolfman is wrong half of two is not multiplication it's division? Right?

(quoted from post at 18:05:33 02/15/15) 1+1=?
2+2=?
half of 2+2=?

I'll post the answers at 820pm

1+1=11
2+2=IH 3588, 3788, 6388, 6588, 6788
half of 2+2=serious he!! to pay for breaking the tractor!

My 2 cents CDN

But have you ever used that in every day life? I never have I think it's just a trick question! I asked Siri on my iPhone and she could not even figure it out! Lol haha

Wow that is really weird I still think half of two is one that makes it division. Not multiplication.
But I'm no good in math and you learn something new every day! Lol

Yup, need to put in the ( ) to make a proper equation.

Good one tho to make a person think.

Fisherman story----3 fishermen rent rooms at a lodge for $10 each (OK it was a long time ago...) So $30 total. Lodge owner wants their repeat business, so he gives the busboy $5 and tells him to give it to the fishermen as a goodwill gesture. Busboy goes up to the rooms but thinks "how am I going to split $5 between 3 fishermen?...I know...I will give each of them $1 and keep the extra $2 as a tip!" So, doing the math---fishermen paid $9 for each room ($10 less the $1 from the busboy) for a toal of $27. Busboy has the $2 tip in his pocket---$27 plus $2 equals $29....where did the other dollar go?

The money is all there. The question is not phrased properly.

The room originally cost $30. Owner refunded $5. Room now cost $25.
So $25 that they paid, plus $3 they were refunded =$28, plus the $2 the busboy stole = $30. All the money is accounted for.

Or to put it another way--each guy paid $9 for a total of $27. Room only cost $25. Where did the [u:9a5b43c179]$2[/u:9a5b43c179] go? The busboy stole it!

It comes down to the order in which the math is done, similar to the OP's question. Without brackets or an order of operation, a simple math question can have several answers--just like the '1/2 of 2 +2' question. If you developed an equation for the fisherman puzzle, you will get the right answer if the sequence of operation is done properly.

Another simple teaser---how much dirt is in a post hole 3 feet deep by 1.5 feet in diameter??

"Without brackets or an order of operation, a simple math question can have several answers"

But he did use brackets if you know math terms.
He just used words instead of signs.

Half of 2 + 2 = ?

Half is 1/2
Of in math terms means times
You always do multiplication first in absents of brackets.
So......

1/2 x 2 + 2 = ?

1/2 x 2 = 1

1 + 2 = 3

I tried to explain it below using pizza.
If you have half of 2 pizzas and (+) 2 pizzas you really got 3 pizzas.

Maybe should read..."Half of 2, plus 2" ??Placement of commas can change the meaning of a sentence too.
