The timing marks on my ford jubilee with the red tiger engine are viewable on the flywheel through the inspection hole

Is this the same for the 172 cu in engine?

showcrop,

Thank you. I have been helping a friend with his 871. Just ordered all new ignition parts, carb. rebuild kit,and will make a trip to his place in a couple of weeks to install the parts for him. Do you use PerTronix electronic ignition on your tractors?

I have it on one and it makes a significant difference in the timing. Set it by the book but don't be afraid to adjust it according to power and knock. I adjusted mine on my Dyno, and If I recall correctly it wanted about three more degrees advance with the pertronics than with points.

Showcrop,
Thank you for the information. Want to get my friends tractor running correctly then we will make a decision regarding installing a petronix electronic unit
