JD 755 red rear lights?

This tractor has orange flashing warning lights on the top of the fenders--that's not what I'm asking about. What I want to know is what are the rectangular rear only facing lamps built into the fenders? Are the brake lights? Under what conditions should they be working? The manual I have makes no mention of them.
 
They are tail lights only not brake lights. I know none of the US sold JD compact utilities have factory brake lights of that era. The European models had brake lights but a different light assembly. The fenders look the same so if you really want/need brake lights you could buy the switch make the wiring harness to have them.

Thanks JD Seller--that'll help me figure out why they are not working.

P.S. Do you know if the tractor would be wired for a rear work light--it doesn't have one. There is a 2 prong plug on top the trans at the right rear of the seat--comes out the wiring harness right where the harness goes through that fender. It's not hooked to anything. One wire is black and my test light shows it to be a ground. The other is blueish-green and doesn't turn hot with the light switch that I can tell. I'm pretty much finished getting everything working--even checked all the safety stuff and everything is working so I don't know what else that would be for.
 
Chris I think the rear work light was a field installed option. You got a short harness that hooked it into the tail light supply,IRC. It bolted to the top of the fender.

Thanks, I bet that's what the hole in the right fender just ahead of the tail light housing is for. I'm thinking the connector I found is the right one but I'll have to look more tomorrow.
 
Chris, I have a PDF of the Deere Tech manual for the x55 series, it has all the wiring along with the rest of the tractor.
